Well I'm 203.6 miles in and finally got my hiking legs broke in, we are doing 16 mile days regularly and feeling fine each morning. Starting to make a lot of new friends, we have hooked up with another hiker who decided to travel with us for as long as he likes, he goes by hike-n-mike.
We got stuck in Gatlinburg, TN(fuck this tourist trap) because my hiking buddy Redbeard's pack strap tore, bad deal but we are taken care of now but no time to hit the trail untill morning. We went to the best damn gear shop ever, the smoky mountain outfitters and he got a 175$ discount on a new pack from the very helpful store owner, she offered us all 15% discounts on the entire store so I bought a crazy Kavu hat and some more teko socks.
The park and hiking is really beautiful and we are mainly staying up on the ridgeline so the walking is fairly easy. I can't wait to see what is up ahead tomorrow is supposed to be one of the best sections on the trail.
Well take care folks, I'm off to kill a buffet.

Nice man! Smokies are beautiful, and i met some awesome people the week i camped there!
Yea gatlinburg is a total tourist trap. But did you notice like half the shops sell pipes and bongs and shit? I went to a martial arts shop and they were selling them, went to a clothing store and they were selling them, sex store and they were selling them.....
Pigeon Forge is much worse of a tourist trap than gatlinburg though...beware!
anyways hope you are having a blast, take care and stay healthy man

I'm attempting a thru-hike but I'm going to run out of money before I ever reach Katahdin. I'll probably make it around 1500 miles or so. I may borrow more money to finish if it becomes important but right now the journey itself is far more important than any destination.
I haven't went anywhere in Gatlinburg but the grocery store, the liquor store, the microbrewery and the two gear shops, there's no way I want to go down to the main road again, to many fat, disgusting tourist. I may end up spearing someone with a leki if I go back down there.

Seen my first black bear this morning while attempting to hitch-hike out of here... We decided to find another spot to perch because we weren't having any luck when my buddy picked up his pack and the handle tore, his shoulder strap was half way tore out in one swift motion. It was a dana designs terra plane who marmot just bought out and they have been complete assholes in dealing with this, all I can say is Fuck Marmot after this, they've lost my business.

the cabins way up in the hills are where the peace and quiet and yes, bears are. i am more terrified of bears than anything else on this planet (except maybe christians, come to think of it). i wasn't too rattled by the bears i'd seen in gatlinburg but others have had me practically pissing my pants.

Unless the bear is a Grizzly I'm not really scared, I'm not sure if that's stupid or not but they just don't bother me but I've never been real close to one who has a taste for human food.
