If you want to see wierd insects, you need to visit arizona. Everything here seems to want to hurt you.

That, or its armored to hell and back, 6 inches long, and you can hear it chasing your dog.

check @cro's thread in the hunting forum for pics on my latest hike near mt. challenger. thats up near bellingham, alot closer to you than mt. rainier.

mt. rainier is tough and is pretty much done for its summer season. its pretty technical with rope teams, belaying over crevasses and what not. if you want to do a winter ascent, wait till january or february; otherwise, i would wait till next summer.

I lived on the pacific crest for a while right around Donner Mountain.
nIce area. I like the apalachian trail a lot. No place in particular
The Gunks in upstate Ny are cool.

A teacher of mine climber Rainer. He showed us a slide show of it. It looks like an intense climb.

Mt washington in NH is real cool as well.

sounds awsome im going to the olypmic this fall so ill check that out for sure! i dont know why but i was always under the impression that the grand canyon was limited to no over nights, clearly im wrong. can you camp anywhere there?

mndfrz: when i looked in to going to the redwoods there i was told there was a couple year waiting list just to enter...whats htat all about?

damn that place looks beautifull. is it always low cloud/fog there, or just cause of the rains? i cant remember anything like that when i was in bellingham. where abouts is that, looks liek a must.

i'm heading to the olympics in less than 2 weeks!!! i cant wait!

yeah its usually quite clear and beautiful in the summer up there, but of course it poured on us the whole time!!

sheik--the only NE hiking i've done has been in the Adirondack state park in NY. i bet vermont and new hampshire has a lot to offer, i used to snowboard up there all the time! its beautiful up there!

Oooooh, any place in Colorado!  :sun: I was recently there to see the Dead play at Red Rocks, and while there we hiked all around. Simply beautiful, and so close to the cities! I like how you can stop your car anywhere and just get out and hike, there aren't designated trails or areas, and I think that's how it should be

If we're talking not in North America, then it'd have to be the Blue Mountains of Australia. All of Australia is simply beautiful, and I would live all over that place if I could. White sand beaches, flat red desert as far as the eye can see, cold rainforests, mountains... they have it all! My personal fav was scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, which I recommend to all of you who have never been diving! But then, we?re talking about hiking, not diving

I get for me the location wouldn't matter as much as who it was with. Hell if i go hiking with that special someone, the back yard can seem like my own little piece of heaven, becoming the most beautiful place on the earth.

Heh, you don't know what real bugs are!  I grew up in the deserts of the southwest and thought I knew it all until I moved to Australia for a couple years.  Just ask Hanky or Grizz or one of those other Aussies about bugs!  They got shit down there that'd eat your dog!! :smirk:

you can camp in the grand canyon...however...you have to camp in park camp areas and you have to register where you are going to be each nite.....it very difficult to get a campsite or a backcountry pass late spring on to summer. another good reason to go in the winter - early spring.  the campsites we were at we nice and empty.
