Fripp is a master of the crescendo.

That's one.  Here's another

But I think it has already appeared here.

I remember the first time I heard them.  It was the Court album and I was in high school listening to the Syracuse University radio station.  My first taste of Zappa was Billy the Mountain on that station.  Can you imagine a radio station playing a 20 minute song today?

no, not, of course. i used to hear some fuddy duddy stuff in my youth and be like oh wow they're playing this now! cool! but they wouldn't even finish the whole song. LOL i'd be like, wow, they actually got played@!

like it was a big deal. now we've got pop being shoved down everyone's throats and also some of the most overrated "classic tunes man!" shit that just pisses me off.

i like Led Zeppelin as much as the next guy but c'mon you can only take so much.

Frank Zappa getting played anytime after the 70's would be inherently a spectacularly rare occasion.

but yeah, alas... Starless is an immense song. a real builder that one, too.

I wonder if some of the classic rock stations just pay for some kind of song package and run with it for 10 years straight without buying anymore rights to anything. It gets incredibly repetitive for sure.
