King Crimson Appreciation Thread

I just heard King Crimson for the first time the other day. "21st Century Schizoid Man" made my jaw drop. The rest of the album "In the Court of the Crimson King" did not disappoint, and the title track is an AMAZING closer. Phenomenal band!

I hadn't ever paid any attention to them untill I heard Les play Thela Hun Ginjeet in 2000 on the scorecore tour in Minneapolis, MN. Soon after that show I had to know more about that song which led me to KC and eventually numerous CD purchases, if you must know.

Well there it is then!!!!! Galactic and Lake Trout were there also, Les was wearing a red union suit and a wierd pair of glasses with a pigs nose on them. Skerik sat in with Galactic for half of thier set. Lake Trout made me hide in the bathroom I fill you in as my memory gets back to me.

This album was released in 1969, like FreakQLibrium said. Stephen King is actually giving the band a nod, as I'm sure he listened to them in his younger years. PWNED.
I wish I had it on vinyl, FreakQ; that's fuckin ill! Or owned any vinyl besides DSOTM. Or owned a record player.

King Crimson is an amazing talent. One of my all time favorite bands. Genius musicians. Robert Fripp is a guitar god. Greg Lake is excellent.

yeah, King Crimson are in my opinion THE progressive rock band. they were so ahead of their time. it's cool they're getting more exposure now from younger generations. I was disappointed to see they were opening for Tool a few years ago since without King Crimson (and also Pink Floyd) there would be no Tool. whatever, though, props to Tool for introducing them to some people.
my favorite KC period is the Red era (Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, & Red). I plan to play some of their stuff and similar artists on mine and Shroomism's metal madness radio hour at some point even though they're not metal, but we're going to go into lots of non-metal soon enough. (was supposed to be on tonight but miscommunication and bad timing will push this week's schedule to next week). I'm gonna play metal for a while but make it more interesting and varied so yeah. stay tuned.

I too still have the "In the Court of the Crimson King" on vinyl. As well as "Lark's Tongues in Aspic". I saw them live for the Lark's Tongues tour and it was a great concert. Exceedingly trippy to say the least. Bill Bruford looked like some demented little gnome -- constantly hopping off his drummer's stool to scuttle out, all hunched over and twinkling, to run some intricate riffs on the hanging chimes or twitter away on the xylophone or some other bizarre percussion rack, then give a split-face grin to the audience and crab-walk back to his perch behind his insanely complex drum and cymbal cage to hammer out something heavier.
I agree that "21st Centruy Schizoid Man" is an outrageously great piece of music. My favorite cut on that album for sure. But if I had to pick just one King Crimson Album, it would be "Lark's Tongues in Aspic". One of the finest albums to trip to that was ever produced.

Right now im listening to the Red album, and I love this Period With larks Tongue in Aspic being an amazing fucking record. I also enjoy the beat, discpline era. Actually all of Krimson is good. Even there new cd that is a mix between metal and electronic music.
