Ugh, drunk fallout bullshit, broken phones and lies, did I get hustled?

So, I broke a roommates phone, her name was mimi, intentionally... She got in the middle of an argument between my girlfriend and I. I asked her several times to stay out of our business.... leave us alone, but she refused, she started making calls and texts that escalated the situation, and I took her phone, and broke it over my knee, and gave it back to her.

I have to admit, at the time I was fairly drunk.

So the next day, I awoke and re thought the previous night... and felt like an asshole. Obviously its not right to break someones phone, so i drove like 60 miles and bought mimi a new phone. She wasnt willing to even speak to me, so i gave the phone to her boyfriend. He also lived with us, and is a long time friend of mine. He said he would smooth it over.

He comes back to me and says its all good, that mimi told him she threw her old phone away because it didnt work, and that she appreciated the new one.

A new iphone is not cheap, i spent 250 on the thing. Which obviously i had no problem doing, since i broke the phone....

But, the thing is I didnt break it...... It turns out, that the night of this whole event... mimie texted my girlfriend saying I didnt break the phone, and that she just told me she did so I would leave her alone.... I find this out months later. This is the sort of person she is, she will lie to my face, and tell the truth to my girlfriend behind my back to start drama.......

So, I confront the roomate, and she admits i never broke her phone, and she was still using it. I tell her that if i didnt break her phone, i never owed her a new one, and that she pretty much just lied to me to rob me, and she owed me 250 or the phone.

so she sends the phone back, and its busted, wont even turn on. Now, she claims it never worked.... and it was fucked from the get go, but it worked when I bought it..... I had a 30 day warranty on it, but thats long expired...

She told me that she felt she didnt do anything wrong.... but thats BS to me..

Im in a difficult position... I feel she jacked me for a phone, I Think she owes me 250. And Im also in charge of the security deposit from our old house. Half of me wants to just take the cash out of the security deposit and send her back the phone. In all honesty, i dont even know if the Brick of a phone she sent me is really even the same phone I Gave her!

so, what do i do?

Suck it up and deal with the loss, it was months ago and it's probably best you just leave it be, it's not worth starting more drama over

in hindsight, don't get drunk, have tantrums and go trying to break people's phones over your knee and this kind of shit won't be a problem

the two of you both have valid points. Obviously that night was not a high point for me, and I did the best i could to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

on the other hand, I never actually broke her phone.

Her ex, our mutual room mate and friend of mine, says that im within my rights to take the cash back from her. And i think I am too, but still...

I'd let it go and write it off as a loss.

You seem to care enough about the friendship of the girl to go out of your way and buy her a new phone.  Harassing her about the $250 isn't going to help the relationship.

I'd talk to her about it then let it go.

yeah it was real stupid.

i mean, i lived with Mimi for 2 winters, we both worked seasonal winter jobs, and after the first winter we liked living with eachother to do it again. Her and my other roomate were dating for like 3 years..... till she broke it off. Actually dipped out of the house early, but still paid her share of the rent. Not really a bad person, but ALWAYS causing drama.
