Japan has such a culturally strange society. There is a lot of sex and "love" services for sale and commercialism, while openly sexual or loving communication in public is strangely shunned.

And picking a girl you like comes with an upcharge anywhere you go. This applies the same for host/hostess clubs. Any random girl will cost you around 5000yen (60 bucks an hour) just to have drinks and chat with them. Selecting a particular girl you like will cost you anywhere between USD $200 to $400 per hour. That is just to talk and drink with a cute girl, that is not even for sexual services.
