I'm in connecticut, I think it was a black bear but it's hard to tell. Both  it's ears were tagged. New england is basically just gymnopilus in terms of mushrooms but in terms of wildlife it has a lot to offer. Bears go with that, though.

I hope you realize there have been like 60 fatal black bear attacks in the past hundred years. They can be pretty startling but I think they're pretty cool. One time I was out hiking with my father and almost walked into one. We walked up to about 20ft from it and it didnt seem to mind at all. It was just walking around and lifting up rocks. I guess for ants and stuff. They're pretty chill animals.

There is not a chance that statistic is correct as bear encounters usually happen in the woods, and when your deep enough in the woods you're not going to be found. That sounds like a chill bear, but you see this bear had been watching me and came at me, and I don't think it wanted a hug.

You don't need to be scared of bears, and you don't need to carry a gun for protection.  The bears won't hurt you unless you start chasing its cubs around.

Wow this was a really good read, glad your still with us man. Sounds like a nice place you've got with all those woods and mini cliffs. Unfortunately being out there may never feel the same after your experience.

These weren't grizzlys, black bears are like big raccoons.

Even grizzly bears almost never hunt humans.

That bear was in Bethesda and Rockville two days ago before they found it in a tree on the NIH Campus.

No they are not!!!  They run away when you yell at them or pretty much any time they see you.  I have seen them many times while mushroom hunting.  Being scared of bears is like being scared of squirrels.

I usually sleep outside without a tent in bear country.  Once a bear walked up to me while I was sleeping, he was about ten feet away when I woke up.  I jumped up and yelled at it and it ran away.  They always run away.  There is nothing scary about them unless you are throwing rocks at its cubs or something.

Ya I get that, doesn't change that they are monsters that have the ability to kill you with their face. Every time you encounter a bear you're taking a risk. If the bear has cubs it's way more likely that it will put rip your dick off.

People are much more dangerous than bears.  Bears kill maybe one person per year in all of North America on average, people kill thousands of times more often.
