    #2005390 - 10/13/03 03:34 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, I'm from British Columbia, Canada, I found these mushrooms about 20 mins ago and i would really apreciate some hints as to what these might be....
The biggest one found was around 4 inches tall with a cap width of 1.5 inch, they where found in a grassy area, The cap is blackish grey with a tiny white ring around the edge of the cap there apears to be a nipple, the gills are dark brown\jet black, also evenly seperated ...the stem is long thin and hollow the spore print appears to be black...bruising appears to be dark...please help me thanx!

although i am very new to identifying mushrooms myself, i would recommend buying/borrowing/stealing a field guide/ID guide to get a guess on what you think before asking other people. other than that, im sorry i can't help you.

Panaeolus species. probably from the campantulatus group. they are inactive and verry common in grassland and pastures.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

angry: i have never seen panaeolina foenisecii retain partial vield reenants on the cap margin. this and the fact that the print was reported as black in deposit would seem to key out to Pan. campantulatus. i could be wrong.
