Maybe the peak of the actives mushroom season influences decision to join.  Of the 6 active species, with a curtailed season (so excluding Psilocybe cubensis), mentioned at this link http://www.shroomery.org/8773/Magic-Mushroom-Field-Guide, 5 species have seasons with October "near" the peak dates.

Psilocybe baeocystis: September-November
Psilocybe cyanescens: September-November
Psilocybe pelliculosa: September-November
Psilocybe semilanceata: Late August-November
Psilocybe stuntzii: September-December

The only anomaly on that list is Psilocybe caerulipes: August-October

I was thinking the same thing.  Like maybe people joining the Shroomery has something to do with Shrooms.

That makes sense. October is around the beginning of the season in say the PNW.

I am guessing it has something to do with weather as well

In October people start spending more time indoors and on the internet

Yeah, autumn is generally associated with mushrooms and in autumn, the Hunting forum attracts loads of new users getting their random coprinoids identified.

There must be some strange astrological phenomenon for it.

I also say this because I worked at a frozen yogurt place when I was in high school. I noticed one day out of every single month, we would get a bunch of customers who would order 1 particular topping on their yogurt. A topping that was usually not popular at all. And this fluctuation would always only happen on this particular day of the month. Even our regulars would do this on this day.

It's almost like there was a pattern, and there was some cosmological or chronological influence on our psyche. It's quite interesting how, when you come into contact with a bunch of strangers every single day, you notice that many of them will start doing the same thing on a certain day, and it will happen in a hoard. I suspect this may be what is happening on the Shermery too.

Probably because it's getting colder in most places and most people spend more time indoors.

Shroom hunting season may have something to do with it, but I'd wager the weather has more to do with it. Many websites see a spike in usage during fall/winter.

Yes, in the face of several logical explanations, that must be it.

Add Psilocybe quebecensis to this list of october fruiter mushrooms

I think its a good hypothesis, can we check the historic of certain subsections of the site? We could check if we see more posts than usual in the hunting and identification section. :aweohyou:

Is it also a coincidence that there is a surge in homosexuality during the month of October?
