I worked at a job with min wage workers, it closed down and outsourced to china.

7.25 an hour can't compete with 2$ a day, even when I graduate I'll be competing with people that make 5$ a day to support their family.

A low min wage is just a way for big companies to be on the government payroll for sudsidizing, it actually doesnt put any power in the consumers hands, our reccesions/depressions aren't cause by min wage

You miss the point.

Minimum wage should be non-existent or as low as possible to inspire you to not remain on minimum wage.

If the business closed down to save money based on a minimum wage, how would raising the minimum have affected that?

I think the elephant in the room here is that minimum wage is not sustainable. 

The earth cannot, and probably never will be able too, support every family with a US minimum wage's worth of resources.  A US minimum wage worker consumes far more resources than the earth can support.  How much more fracking, clear cutting, industrial polluting and carbon emitting are we willing to do to give the richest 10% of humanity even more resources?  Can't have it both ways.

That may be the case, but as of right now, it is not such a concern.

Minimum wage should be something to keep you off the streets in between jobs. Being harsh and not politically correct, it ought to be demeaning and embarrassing. If that isn't motivation, then not much else will be.

That being said, education is likely the most valuable thing that you can get to get a stable job. That being said educational debts are atrocious. Perhaps try investing in online courses. They may not be as prestigious, but they're quickly gaining acceptance and are much easier (not having to physically go anywhere) to attain.

some people work those jobs for year, working a harsh demeaning job for a decade and not moving up would be torture by yourself

I mean, education is essentially provided through high school. At that point if you worked hard, you can usually get a full ride to a college. Not a name brand one, but one that gives degrees. From there you are not in the position where you have to take minimum wage for long if at all. Admittedly job situation ions can be tough, but that degree will always be there in your favor. Especially in the lower paying jobs, it will give you an edge over just a high school diploma.

I've worked along side college educated people for minimum wage.  It happens.  The jobs just are not there and I dont think we should expect them to be.

The world doesnt need more highly educated highly paid workers.  The world needs people who will work hard and long for little pay.  Those are the jobs that are in demand.

The thing is, if youre education does not make you stand out, then what will? being a hard worker helps a lot, but they go hand in hand. If you work hard, then you get realized and get moved up. At that point you are not educated so you hit a proverbial ceiling. At that point you are controlled from the top.

Youre right, cheap labor is a necessity, but most (educated) people know that to jump that low wage- hard work to the high wage-low work boundary you need specialized skill. That way you are indispensable. You have a value beyond that of mindless labor.

Nobody is indispensable.  For every skilled position out there, there are many that are able and willing to fill it.

True, but are you willing to say that an IT manager who runs a server room is more indispensable than say a McDonald worker?

When I say indispensable, I mean, If they were fired or quit with no notice, how fucked would everyone else (who worked with them) be?

And you bring up a valid point there are too many qualified people. I think that stems from education. Graduation rates have been steadily increasing, but ability tests show the level of material learned is dropping. I theorize that the graduation rates have been inflated by decreased difficulty.

In the past few people received an education. Some because it was expensive, others because it was too difficult. As a matter of fact, I talked to a person who was knowledgeable ion the area, and they said the SAT, as a benchmark, the difficulty has dropped because schools started to drop materials because students found them too difficult.

My politically incorrect opinion is that high school ought to be much harder. That way college is harder too. By doing that, the value of the high school diploma is reinstated, and a college diploma is means "wow you're really smart and have worked hard, we'll hire you"

7 billion people on this planet is not sustainable. America consumes 25% of the worlds resources and only has 5% of the population.  I sadly must say that I think humanity is going to keep exploiting the world until the day our species dies off. But at least my job is to protect the forests.

I've had jobs making 9.25 an hour

doesn't cut shit even if you're just paying for a room it's more or less some place to start accumulating ass loads of debt
