The return of the Merry Pranksters?
    #19961958 -

I don't know exactly what to think of this...
There's a kikstarter to get Further back on the road for another adventure to be filmed to celebrate Furthers 50th anniversary.
They are sending out applications to "become a Merry Prankster"... If you donate $200 or more...

It honestly seems kind of sad the way they're going about doing this.
It just doesn't seem the least bit right & I wouldn't be surprised if this bus gets pulled over & everyone gets arrested within the first week or a modern day acid test just goes to shit...
Hopefully I will be proven wrong. I truly do hope so.

I doubt they're going to ride dirty in that thing.

The bus is going to be wired and broadcasting live. Too many eyes will be on them in the modern world to allow any of them to be loaded on acid. They may talk about acid, but they aren't going to ride around with it and drop it a bunch.

I'm sure that whatever parties and fests they go to will have plenty of Lucy flowing around, however.

I say we should start our own tour "The Merry Shroomster"

Forget that broken down wreck, we need a top of the line "Tour bus" to spread the love of fungi

Just a random idea I thought I'd throw out there

Disregard or discuss as you wish

A friend of a friend of mine is going on that bus. I'm sure there will be some doses on that thing...
Seems kind of dumb though, drawing that much attention to yourself when you have an illegal subtance

The wonders of acid is that you can ate the stash no matter how big it is. As long as its L its safe, unless you're one of those glass of orange juice types...

I think it's a pretty cool idea. It represents the new movement. Sort of an acknowledgement of the second psychedelic revolution that is going down.

Personally I think it's kind of pathetic. Every generation has their "thing" so I don't see why these guys want to recreate another generations memories.

What is happening to the creativity and originality these days? From the music to the clothing, everyone seems to be copying someones or some other moment in history instead of creating and generating their own original memories.

I think that's a pretty misinformed perception. I don't believe there's any real change in artistic mediums. In anything labelled as new you can clearly find elements taken from yesterday. Art builds upon itself. Your not suddenly going to get some new form that is an island floating above the main tree trunk. There will always be a points of connection, some thicker than others.

Just look to the jam rock scenes of today. There is wide array of absolutely stellar bands. I think we're seeing a movement away from centralized huge acts and a major increase in sound quality and virtuosity in local bands.  You can get a jaw dropping, amazing quality show in some no name venue/bar from a band that'll never be known outside of their state.

And some respect has to be shown to the the prior generation that did the 60's-70's movement. A lot of people on that scene are elders today and they are still very much involved in getting the youth on the right track.

No one is disrespecting the old generations, if anything I thank them for paving the way. My grudge is with the unoriginality of the idea. It's been done before, move on to a new medium. This isn't building on anything, this seems to me to be some one simply living out a fantasy about a movie they saw a few years ago.

Personally none. At least nothing in the form something that became a facet of culture but I do have "original" memories with friends and loved ones.

That's beyond my initial point, what I am getting at is why would they need to do it under the Further banner aside from the history and image that the Furthur brand carries.

I get it, it's a movie about the 50th anniversary but it just bugs me that they would basically auction off roles in the movie.

Exactly.  Why the hate?  And the $200 is for gas, I believe.  It's going to be extremely expensive to drive that thing all over the country.

Exactly.  I think the point is to carry on that spirit to the next generation and to publicize everything that the Merry Pranksters bus trip represented.  There's nothing at all wrong with that.  As for the drugs, I have a feeling that there won't be many drugs ON the bus.  I mean, Zane Kesey hasn't even smoked pot in over 10 years.

Seems all good fun to me, I might even donate a buck or two:peace: Nobody really cares about hippies anymore, so you don't have much to worry about. It MIGHT make the local news the day it drives through a town lol

Good stuff though! I don't really see any copying either, the dead is still alive, so why not give another hoorah!:sunny:

Being a Merry Prankster involves taking acid and pulling pranks, not dropping 200$ so some old hippy can re-live their glory days.
