I dunno if this is common knowledge but Lysol is not used to kill contaminates in the air, its a surface cleaner, but now there is a product on the market called "Oust" that is actully used to sanitize air. just thought id throw it out there

I've got a can of oust. It says on the bottle "kills 99.9 percent of odor causing bacteria".
I guess bacteria that doesn't cause odor could still be a problem as well as different molds and spores in the air. I think the whole "air sanatizer" is just a marketing ploy, but mabey not.
The shit does cover up the smell of terds really well though

Isopropel alcohol and bleach water:) does the trick. Oust I think works, but is like ~$6 can! If you want the extra protection, go for it. puggy

Read what the ingredients of Oust are compared to lysol. They are both probably some kind of alcohol derivative. They are probably the same thing. Just get some cheap 50 cent a bottle of isopropanol and put it in a two dollar spray bottle. It'll do the trick.

Depends on what's in it. What's in oust? Lysol is mostly ethanol with another carbon compound with a long carbon chain and a hydrophilic head (a detergent) and an ammonia. There are some air sanitizers out with polethylene glycol (di- or triethylene glycol) in them which has been shown to be really effective as an air sanitizer.

I think Oust is one of those.
I just wipe down surfaces with 91% iso. I don't spray shit and I think spraying lysol in the air does more harm than good, especially right before fanning.

If you are really worried about your air( which you shouldn't be unless you get huge contam problems) get an air filter of some kind. I've read on these boards that someone took a 20'X20' box fan and duct taped a 20X20 filter to it. That's suppose to work just fine. As for inoculationg jars, I would say that you don't want any air movement of any kind. Turn off you ceiling fans and your air conditioners. Don't spray the air right before you open a jar, because you get all the contam spores that may be in the air moving al over the place.

I always spray the room I"m working in with lysol...wait 30secs or so then wipe down everything with rubbing alcohol(including my hands)....I also wear a dry wall mask....I've had a very good success rate doing this

Cheesenoonions -- I completely agree with you. Still air is the best for incubating. If you want, blow sterile air from a HEPA filter (Wallgreens) up into your casings which should be above the floor to begin with. Incubating, however, you want *still* air.

ok, for the last time, just about the only difference between lysol and out is that oust is a MUCH finner aerosol therefor it stays in the air longer. i swear by the shit, i use it in combination with my HEPA and havent gotten contams yet

Agreed, lysol comes out in a short spray, especially when the propellant is low, Oust creates a fine, distant mist. I just got a coupon for $1.00 off lysol, and it says right on there that oust kills 16 virus' and bact. and lysol kills 46! so maybe ill get a can of both next time. but i hate the aroma of lysol, but i guess germs must hate it more too. continue the contaminant genocide my friends :]

I'll throw 2 cents in, even if this thread did die 5 years ago.
'Air sanitizing' is bs. I don't care how fine the droplets are.
