Do you know the wavelength? A UV lamp is a blt much, they really don't need thart much and UV I thick bit too blue. It just if if there is no/tiny amount of outside light, and the light is very orange, like a low watt blub.

But cubensis will put up with about any amount of shit, it comes though in the end.

Fluorescent black light could be too much, or so I have heard. I hear that it causes mutations. That also happens in plants, anacharis grass. But, with the grass the light speeds up growth. And that might be the problem, the mushroom grows to fast so it doesnt form correctly. Heat black light, like the kind you use for reptile cages, is OK. I have used those before.

black light is not the same as blue light ... don't use it

even the most indirect daylight is better than lamps.

FYI: You'll get pins and fruit under UV but your mushrooms will undergo genetic damage that will show up several generations down the line. If you're not printing and you just grow from purchased syringes, UV light will work, I suppose, since you will not be propagating the genetic line, but unless you have a good reason to use UV (like stealth) use ordinary light. If it's bright enough to see, it's bright enough to trigger pinning.

Nice, diffuse, natural light from a window for a few minutes to a few hours a day is plenty; and its histogram is already optimized for growing everything on Earth. You can't beat nature.

So your saying I can grow with UV if I am not spore printing. Also I can just leave the shrooms in my room outside of my dark area and put it back 3 hours later. and also I am planning on using the casing method could I still just put it in my room for 3 hours and just continue the process? And also will my shrooms

Nonono, sorry for being thorough in my decription, I am using a terrium. I was saying I can take them out of my dark area ( like a space in my closet ) and then set the terrium in the middle of my room. Then put them back in the dark space that i have for the rest of the time then do it again... and again... Or do i just sit them in the middle of my room the WHOLE time I am trying to fruit.

Mycelium doesn't need light as a source of energy the way plants do. It just needs light to let it know that it's grown out of the ground or cow patty it was growing in, and is now outside in the fresh air. Light tells the mycelium to start reproducing (spreading spores) and that requires a mushroom. Since a mushroom growing underground will be unable to spread spores very far, the mycelium waits until it sees light.

Once your cakes are birthed and in the terrarium, they need just a few minutes of indirect light each day. Thirty minutes in "the middle of your room", as you say, is plenty. If there's enough light to see your cakes, there's enough light to trigger pinning. Avoid UV light unless you have a very good reason to use it. It does unpredictable things to most living things.

Hope this makes sense...

Good luck.

Totally makes sense bro, that fucking great news to hear. I thought I had to keep them in the light 12/12 (hours) like a normal day would occur. Your the bomb diploid.

Experiments have shown that grow-lux type fluorescent lights high in blue spectra at 480 nanometer wavelength triggers pinning more robustly than other light, but the difference is hard to notice and not worth bothering with.

You really don't need any special light; anything coming in through the window, a fluorescent light, an incandescent bulb, even a battery-operated light will work fine.

Blacklight is fine as long as you don't plan on making spore prints. I use a blacklight for mine, usually for a minimum of 12 hrs a day.
