Any chance of a full recovery?

It's been 28 months since the eventful weeks where I had my first bouts of psychotic episodes from using stimulants. I made a near full recovery and was completely functional. Come June 2012, I thought that everything was fixed and working.
I got a 40-hour night job on top of a 20-hour college course so in my infinite wisdom I thought I'd use stimulants to help me get through all the work I had to do.
Bad idea.

Skipping all the details, it fucked me up severely, I was barely functional most of the time and had an opiate addiction on my hands. I had my first hospital admission on October, I think. I was detained against my will and spent 5 weeks in there. I tried three anti-psychotics which sucked, got diagnosed as schizophrenic and finally got shoved on Clozapine 6-7 months ago, which works great. I still get breakthrough symptoms and minor psychotic episodes which suck but are bareable/controllable.

My main point in making this thread is to hear other peoples experiences who've went through similar things. Like, is it possible to make a full recovery? Do you think anti-psychotics are necessary in the long term? I'm young and to think I've gotta spend my life (and rely) on medication :feelsbadman:

im a functioning schitzophrenic. you wouldn't ever know if i didn't tell you.


i get pretty mild symptoms, and they're mostly drug induced, i.e. when get too fucked up on drugs and don't sleep, thats when my symptoms start to become more apparent and troubling.


i guess i have symptoms all the time but to a very mild degree, or a degree where i can block them out or rationalize them.


but yeah, maybe i'm not to the same level that you have been, but i think i've shown improvement, or atleast made it to a space where ican cope with it and it doesnt effect me as much.


i think hte medications don't do a whole lot to help and generally just mask the symptoms. as a long term solution i dont think they work. i also think schitozphrenics can make a recovery, or brign themselves to a point where they can live their life normally nad have it not inhibbit them enough to prevent them doing what they need to do in normal life.

If you can manage your symptoms and are not in danger of hurting your self or others I would say get off of them.  Once you are on anti psychs for an extended period of time they change your brain and you will be dependent on them for your sanity.

I have MPD (now also known as DID) and my medications keep me from becoming a total loon.  You are on the right path and headed for recovery!  Stay with it!

I think you can close enough that it will be worth the effort.


I know stimulants are particularly harmful but do we ever fully recover from ANY addiction?


Just try to stay positive and keep working on yourself.

I wouldn't fuck with anti-psychs if I were you.
The whole field is a bunch of pseudo science and they treat you like a guinea pig often leaving your worse off.

I knew a guy who went through full blown psychosis were he was hallucinating hardcore about everyone trying to kill him.

he was begging for that back once they put him on Haldol. fuck those drugs.


and anti-depressants too.

It's possible to make a full recovery.

I was hospitalized for three weeks during a period of MDMA and ketamine induced psychosis.

I stopped taking my medication as soon as I was released and made a full recovery.

I secretly know that my "psychosis" was actually a divine blessing of transcendent mystic awakening.

But I function perfectly in society, have no symptoms and take no medications.

Funny you say that. If it weren't for the psychoses, I would have destroyed myself with drugs. So as they, some things happen for a reason. I try to remember those chains of thoughts when times gets tough.
