think about how much 40k a year is. if you live in an apartment for 400 a month, and spend lets say 100 a month on food, and didn't have to pay any insurance, you would basically be rich as fuck. there's no reason in my eyes why more people can't be living that way.

Because not everyone is a 19 year old kid content on living off mr.noodles and internet porn

Or maybe not everyone needs a fucking three bedroom house and a luxury car to be satisfied. Ever think about that :awedisgust:

My rent alone is $1800/month for a 1 bedroom apartment.  $40k/year would barely cover my bills after taxes.

1800$/month for a one bedroom is high for any Canadian city. Even Vancouver and Toronto.

It really isn't.  Average rent around here for a 1 bedroom is ~$1550 + $150 for a parking spot (included in my rent) + $50 for hydro (my hydro is included) and I'm paying right around the average.

American living really can be goddamn expensive.
I hope to be making 40k a year. I just want to live a simple life and sadly money makes that come much quicker.

I know I live in Canada and wages/expenses are higher here but I know plenty of tradesmen that EASILY clear that number, some even double that or into 6 figures if they have their own company..

Dude, become a plumber, an electrician, a brick layer, a handy man...

Salary: 50k.

Self employed: 150k.

There's ridiculous money out there for skilled labor

I didn't read the whole thread yet but the OP(post) is way wrong.  I am an apprentice and I just got a raise this week that puts me a little over 48k.  Not a crook, I work construction and I work hard for my money.  This weeks/ years raise is really gonna help but I'm not rich, still living the apartment lifestyle.

His dumb assumptions aside, 40k is a completely arbitrary number. And in the scheme of things, 40k/year is not much.

This thread rocks.  :grin:

OP == trained monkey.

Me @ 56K == Crook.

Gilgamesh18 == Genius.

Got IT!

My 2 cents is that working a pizza job would be a complete fucking vacation from adult life and OP is lucky that all the people who have college degrees don't want his loser-ass job cause we could do it better, faster, and cheaper than him while smiling the whole time.
