Re: The 40k Complex $$$$ [Re: Almond Flour] * 1

He went to school or otherwise acquired knowledge that not everybody has. His knowledge and expertise is desired by employers, that's why he can make the money he makes.

40k a year isn't very much. Its enough to live in a lot of places, but not everywhere. In the Bay Area, my friend makes 75k a year. He is living paycheck to paycheck renting a shitty three bedroom house. He couldn't even buy a house unless he is making minimum around 110k a year.

Yes, location is very much a big part as well.

Some places 1000/month will get you a small one bedroom apt, some places 800/month will get you a small 2 bedroom house.

Thats hilarious bro. Do you read what you type? Lives in a shitty 3 bedroom house? Classic greed my friend. Ill tell ya what his shitty three bedroom house is a fuckton better than the shared room that I have to rent with 7 other people under one roof :bored:

Its as if people dont get their own car, house, hot wife, and blazing ass internet they feel cheated and showhow apart of the 99%. Its bullshit my friends, absolute bullshit.

But the argument here isnt about what kind of lifestyle 40k can afford, its about the salary itself not being worth for the people who are able to obtain it. People who work NO harder than anyone else in the world, yet still bitch and moan when they can drive themselves to work, or afford their own place. Its sickening.

A trained monkey can do that as well.

Getting compensated for work isn't about the hours put in, and/or physical labor, its about responsibility and training.  You might stand on your feet all day making pizzas.  I have a friend who stands on his feet all day doing spinal surgeries.  There is a drastic difference in the level of responsibility and knowledge required to do each job.

I'm double that salary and don't fit into any of those categories.

One prime example...trades.  If you are a journeyman welder, electrician, heavy duty mechanic, pipefitter, instrument mechanic, millwright...you are guaranteed 40/hour.  And double that if you are willing to go up north and live in camp.  That's if you are able to work hard, prove yourself and do all the appropriate schooling.

How is that cheating or screwing anyone?

Lets say I submit to your argument and agree that spinal surgeries are indeed worthy of a higher salary than a pizza cook or a mango seller......does it mean that person deserves to pull in over $100k and only serve those who are rich enough to buy such procedures?

Thats my point. The medical profession is apart of those who "are crooks for outrageous pay". If the way you afford your vacations to Hawaii are sponsored by exploiting those who are sick and dying you are engaging in dishonest work. Especially when the price you are paid is a sickening amount in comparison to the rest of the world.

i think almond flour is correctly identifying real problems with the modern economy and job market but might be over stating the consistency with which you can equate high wages and a corrupt lifestyle.

Who are you welding for? Whos equipment are you fixing? Pipefitter eh? For what product or company?

All of those professions can easily be traced back to curropt corporations or explotative folks who prey off others and the environment.

$40/hr is indeed impressive, not lets ask WHOS paying it, and how they are getting all that money.

Simply because you engage in honest work doesnt mean you are not taking advantage of corruption. Which is the same thing.

Yeah, its greedy. But that's my description, not his own.

I'm curious how the fuck you know everybody works no harder than you. Seriously. Tell me how no one else works harder than you.

I worked labor 60 hours a week 6 days a week to live in a garage on a couch and feed myself. Getting fucked out of raises, never knowing what time I'd get off, all kinds of bullshit.

Most people work fucking hard for what they have, and you have no place saying they don't. Making fucking pizzas isn't being a software developer, an engineer, or whatever. Its making fucking pizzas. Pizzas don't follow you home and haunt you through the night. I saw my pops as a kid work a 12 hour day as an engineer, get home, get on the computer, and work even more hours trying to figure shit out he had to have done.

Anyways, instead of bitching, how do you propose to fix this problem? Tax everybody making more than you? Are you the standard? Everybody should be like you?

i don't think the individual is responsible for the ENTIRE chain of command when it comes to the economy...nothing wrong with blue collar jobs that's just part of life in an industrialized world.

more like, if the corruption was removed, those jobs would be way more enjoyable and available to those who need them

If you wanna turn this into a crusade against myself be my guest, but my point remains valid. Not to mention many of you are leading this discussion off topic. The issue here is not a matter of how hard you work, its what you engage in and the level of honesty that is actually behind such a paycheck.

Just because you grow corn on a small farm, doesnt mean you are consciously choosing to avoid Monsanto :paranoid:

I agree that it's a harsh system.  However, the underlying problem is a lack of resources.  There are only so many spinal surgeons, hospitals, etc.  Someone is going to miss out.

I disagree.  Exploiting people?  The guy went through something like 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and another 5-8 of a specialized residency.  I consider the guy a saint.  THAT training is part of what you pay for, and the compensation.

Instead of laying on the couch and making pizzas, the guy busted his ass for almost 2 decades.  I have no problems with his compensation.

sigh...you're right.  All this time, I should have been "working hard" making pizzas.

You wouldn't know a hard days work if it came up and slapped you in the face.

Watching you try to do my job, would be like watching a one armed man trying to hang wallpaper in a windstorm.

Furthermore, with your logic, that would mean EVERY company is corrupt to some degree.  All companies are trying to cater(or in your words, take advantage) of a specific market.  Therefor, using your logic:

I agree, sometimes it is easier to bury our heads in the sand than to actually admit what we are supporting is wrong, or that we should examine ourselves and the world
