There is no honest way to make above $40k a year. Seriously....think about it, you are either ripping people off, taking advantage of others, or getting fed ridiculous amounts of money from the government for work that isnt worth half that.

In 2014 in first world America, if you make over 40k, chances are you are a crook :bored:

This is beyond ignorant I know a stone mason who pulls in 80k a year and painter who runs his own business and makes six figures.

I made more than 40k as a chef. I also have made more than 40k with an office job.

The chef position was more honest of the two. But there is plenty of people who make good money who arent scammers/etc.

not everyone making 6 figs is connected to Wall St. Most probably aren't.

$40k?  I completely disagree.

I make a lot more than that as a software developer and I'd say my job is honest.

I have a friend who works at a hedge fund and we got to talking salaries and I just found out that he got a $200 000 bonus last year!  Now THAT is crazy and definitely sounds a little shady.

It seems to me there is SOME element of selling your "soul" if you want a middle class lifestyle, and yes I consider the middle class rich

Interesting how YOUR profession is somehow worthy of a salary over 40k while you smack talk your bud who got more money than you. I suppose thats what the complaining is about though right?

Why do you deserve over 40k for developing software? Do you work any harder than me cooking pizza? What about the guy in Mexico who sells fruit on chicken buses to feed his family? How about the asian worker who lives with 7 others despite working for 12 hours to make your smart phone?

Its kind of sad how folks can make WELL beyond a living wage and act like they are just getting by, or can rant about how "They deserve it". But I dont consider sitting at a desk and driving an air conditioned car worth of ANYTHING over 40k. You are apart of the 10% of the world who is wealthy as shit, and yet the only reason you are paid that is a combination of pure luck, and folks who jack up prices and dominate an industry often peddling trash to begin with.

dude. 40k a year really isnt that much. It isn't even 800$/week BEFORE tax.

It doesnt even work out to 20$/hour with a 40hr work week.

There is plenty of ways to make 20$/hour that are honest.

40k seems like so fucking much to me. although i realize that if you make that and have your own place and a car and everything it's really not that much. but see i just think that whole hamster wheel financial system sounds like quite a conundrum...and i think the fact that so many people are on that treadmill (myself included, although indirectly) is exactly why some people are given such mondo salaries...they can actually vastly overcompensate their high cost of living.

if the cost of living was lower then we could live off far less money. there's no way for that to be possible then for us to exercise our large scale powers as conscious humanity to actually change things.

is this all the fault of these high wage earners? no, but there's a good chance they aren't being part of the solution. and then there are the people who are actually taking advantage of corruption...

That is my problem, not to mention the Mitt Romney attitude that comes with such a lifestyle that has these folks thinking they made themselves from nothing while the rest of the world is lazy as shit. It couldnt be further from the truth and despite this they still feel they are entitled

BEFORE TAX.

What YOU dont seem to get or understand.

Look at the tax rate of a 40+k/year, versus 25k/year.

When I was making 18/hr, for 44hr/week 41k/year. I took home about 2100-2200 a MONTH. After rent of 1000$ for a single bedroom apt. Leaves me 1100-1200 to cover utilities, phone, internet, car, gas, insurance, food.

you sure don't end up having as much as you would think.

But you sound like youve never had to pay for any of these things before.
