Disabled MP3s?

I've been noticing recently that some of the songs I download seem to be well, fucked up. It gets to a point in the song and the numbers on the timer start scrambling and it just makes a loud annoying beeping noise....if you skip past that part it plays fine, but it won't play through. I've had this happen on quite a few songs, only certain files though. It almost seems like the record companies found a way to screw up mp3 files....anyone else notice this or have an explination?

You're half right. It is the music companies but it isn't them fucking up the songs. They are flooding the trading with bunk songs. It's their way of detering people from downloading, if it's not easy people won't do it, that whole concept. Just keep trying different sources and make sure file size is different, otherwise you are probably downloading the same file.

adopt ogg/vorbis. it may soon replace mp3 as it is a better encoding anyway. not to mention, ogg/vorbis is 100% legal at this point in time. http://www.vorbis.com/

ogg/vorbis isn?t any more legal than mp3 is. It?s what you create your tracks from and what you do with them that decides about the legality, not the codec used. But I agree, vorbis sounds better.

Yes, I've gotten a few songs like that too. I suspected that it was probably something to do with the RIAA.

Oh shit! I thought that was just a remix of my favorite song! Those noises they added are pretty funky though .

Think about a lawsuit AGAINST the music company for sharing files in the first place.

you're probably right. sometimes i read things wrong, or absorb them incorrectly the first time. i'm just starting to see the advantage of encoding with ogg.

recently some of the whole cd's i download are not burnable, despite they can fit on the cd(less than 70 mins) i think that this might be a protection of some kind
-------------------- PEACE zippoz "in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption" "People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

I get these sometimes, but only when using applications that download a song from multiple sources like Kazaa I have never had this problem with Soulseek which only gets files from a single source.
What was "not burnable" about your CDs zippoz
