Effexor and LSD

Was not sure where to make this post. . . Anyway I have a friend who wants to take some LSD and asked me for some. I happen to have some of the best stuff I have seen in a long time and gave him some, but he has not taken it yet. He just recently told me that he takes effexor, i guess a mood stabilizer of some sort maybe an SSRI?, and he was concerned about any negative reactions he might have with the LSD or if it will decrease the potency and if he should take extra?

Effexor is an SNRI. It really depends on how much he is taking and how long he has been taking it. When I first started taking SSRI/SNRIs, they significantly decreased the potency of drugs like LSD and mushrooms, and especially MDMA. During those first few years, I would discontinue my antidepressants for 48 hours leading up to my dosing of anything that acted on serotonin. Now that I have been taking antidepressants for 9 years, and homeostatic mechanisms in my brain have had a long time to respond to them, it's almost as if I weren't taking them at all, and I can dose psychedelics/MDMA without discontinuing my antidepressants at all.

Nice thanks. I do not know how long he has been taking but he did say if he stops for even 24 hours he will get withdrawals . . .

Yeah from what I have been reading it does not seem too good. Maybe some LSD/mushroom therapy could ween him off of it . . .

There is no such thing as "stopping effexor" you need to wean off through the course of a few months depending on how much you take. If not you will be in mental hell.

I dont know about LSD. but when I was on effexor I could still trip on shrooms, no visuals though. just lots of mindfuck. MDMA effects very reduced.

Really it depends on his dosage and how long he has been on them. SSRI's and SNRI's downregulate 5-HT receptors. Sometimes if the dose is low, and hasnt been on it for long. You can skip a dose, and then dose your lsd, to have stronger effects. But at a certain point even this wont help, and will probably just result in brainzaps.

Well, I know it's not safe to take effexor with weed, so I wouldn't take it with acid either.

Who told you this? I wouldnt see a problem seeing has how they dont work chiefly on the same receptors.

I've never had an issue with weed and antidepressants, including SSRIs, SNRIs, and NaSSA's.

A quick google search shows some people having panic attacks.
However, weed alone causes anxiety for some, and people on these types of drugs will be more prone to anxiety.

He can probably get away with taking the LSD and still trip, then. His brain has likely adjusted to the Effexor and resembles that of someone who doesn't take it.
