Northern Lights Tonight!

Just some crappy phone pics of the northern lights tonight. Just a few miles south of chicago. Still a pretty cool view for us!

I definatly want to go see the northern lights, and go to the Mauan Kea observitories in Hawaii.

Yeah man, I used to live on the Big Island of Hawaii, where the telescopes are. The view up there is unreal. You can see the whole entire Milky Way. Its incredibly clear up there on the mountain. And that photo you had was from Maui I think, Mauna Kea is really dry and mostly just lava.

As for Northern Lights, I thought you were talking about the weed strain! This same thing happened in another thread about flamin' gloveboxes.

Maybe I just like thinking of drugs too much? :shurg:

OP, do you have a nice camera? Some time-lapse photos would be awesome.

Go ahead and google the solar flares causing them. They are visible from chicago, wisconsin and some other places around here. You dont have to believe me though. (They are gone now)

I'm sorry, but no. The flare's CME missed the earth and no storming occurred.

I've been hearing about an impending geomagnetic storm for a couple of days, and I've been excited
It has been clear as fuck ALL day, now it is cloudy and snowy :frown:
If the aurora were out tonight I would have totally been able to see them.

Then i apologize for posting this thread. I guess all of the green lights in the sky visible tonight were from the city. Its just usually the city lights the sky orange, and ive never seen the city light move. Its also strange that the city is to the right of the picture. The green lights were more north west.

Probably clouds near the horizon. Really, the aurora almost non existant. That image I posted above is almost real time
