Working through a new way for me to approach changing octaves while playing horizontal scales on guitar (left to right), spent most of my day working that out.

That's a good plan. If I had beer, I'd be drinking too.

goddamnit.

its a new year now, and "new" episodes of TV shows are starting back up. This happens every January and August/September: I forget what TV shows I watch. I don't have DVR, so it doesnt auto-record. I need to remember what I watch and watch the episode in real-time or shortly thereafter before the free versions go away online/TV.

Just which positions to use for which keys and which positions to avoid, there's the issue of phrasings which center on a joint between octaves and how much contrast I want during those transitions.
Its a balance between economic hand motions and timbre consistency, which isn't an issue for most guitar styles but it is if you play Khyal or Dhrupad. Consistency brings the guitar closer to the voice in a way and that's important for this style

Not really a big conundrum but it was worth ruminating over

I think DVRs are pretty cheap now, you could always buy one.
