Glad Tek Questions

I've been having luck using the glad tek and am thinking of trying something else.
Instead of birthing the cakes, I was thinking of just popping the top off of one of my containers and letting it fruit.
I'm using the basic brf and verm.
Is this a bad idea?

looking at the pics of your glad wear it is.....mushrooms will grow on the inside of the container b/c its been exposed to light....you could use the hippie invitro tek i suppose...but as far as making it into a casing by just opening the lids is a bas idea...id go with the pf tek...

from what i've heard, you should cover the sides with duct tape or aluminum foil to keep the light from making pins form on the sides if you want to make that into an instant case. but don't take my word for it.

yes, cover the sides when you begin the fruit cycle.  next time buy those black sided oven gladware.  good luck :smile:

Greetings all,
Below is a copy of the email that got me started on this method. I'm still new, but so far this has worked better for me than using jars. I'm wanting to try the grain methods next....as soon as I get a new pressure cooker.The containers in the pic were inoculated on 8-23 and look like they still have a couple of weeks to go, eh? Patience you Flystalker, heh heh.
It (the method) is the same as the PF Tek just with this modification. Originally I used the original substrate formula, but this time I'm using the updated one that has more brf.
Thanx to Reshkadesh for this one.........

Made two 4"x4"x1.5" BRF/VERM cakes in glad tubs I had wiped out with
lysol. Filled them about 2/3 with substrate and rest with dry verm
layer. Sterilized in the microwave for 3x - 2 minute bursts. Let cool
some and taped container edges. Let cool completely and inoculated
right through the plastic - taped over holes. Now colonized! Will
birth tommorow. Took about 2 weeks to colonize...
So far this cheap (3 for $1 plastic tubs w/lid) no pressure cooker
thing is working...a friend of ours is trying it too..be sure to get
microwave safe GLAD tubs....Best wishes!

Anyways...so a person can case with brf and verm instead of grain?

maybe this is a stupid question
but would there be enough moisture in these mini casings or would anyone recomend putting perlite,etc at the bottom of the storage space

what about treating it like a cake and having the glad on top of a layer of perlite and peroxide/water
but i dont know if that would be enough
