Pilonidal Cyst

Holy fucking shit. Has anybody dealt with one of these before?
Here's an excerpt from wikipedia to get the idea
Quote:
A pilonidal cyst, also referred to as a pilonidal abscess, pilonidal sinus or sacrococcygeal fistula, is a cyst or abscess near or on the natal cleft of the buttocks that often contains hair and skin debris
Basically an abscess on your tailbone. IMO the worst place to get an abscess
Horrendous pain. I've torn ligaments, broken multiple bones, had unsedated colonoscopies...but this shit takes the cake as far as pain goes. I haven't been able to sit down for 4 days, luckily it's almost over. I went to the urgent care center last night to get it lanced but they told me it was very soft and just about ready to drain itself. The doctor said mine was relatively minor and I shouldn't really worry about it. I can't imagine what a serious pilonidal cyst is like...
It's a little bit better today, I just put some ichthammol ointment on it which is a natural anti-inflammatory/bactericidal/antifungal and I'm already feeling relief. I'm going to fucking jump for joy when this thing finally drains.
I know I sound like a bitch but this thing hurts!! Has anybody else dealt with this?

Update (not that anyone cares )
This ichthammol stuff is the real deal. The pain is down to a 4 after being at a 7-8 for the past few days and the abscess is getting extremely soft. It's gonna pop soon

Glad you got it lanced. It should heal quickly now, I've never had one but I hear they can be quite painful.

I had a pilonidal sinus before, I think its slightly different to the cyst as mine didn't hurt unless I knocked it somehow, the main problem was it was constantly leaking puss. I had surgery roughly two years ago and I'm still having problems with it not completly healing. Make sure you take extremely good care of it and keep it clean and dry until your sure its fully healed or you will end up in the same boat as me. Good luck man

Didn't get it lanced....I went to the doctor and she told me that I didn't need it lanced since it was almost ready to drain itself. She said if I could deal with the pain then letting it drain on it's own was the best option. That was roughly 36 hours ago and good news....
IT DRAINED!!! Holy shit, it was the greatest feeling ever.
I woke up at 1AM this morning with extreme pressure and throbbing pain so I went to apply more ichthammol ointment...saw that "it" grew another head and was leaking puss so I took a hot shower and voilĂ , it started to drain a bit more. I helped it a little bit with very light pressure since I know squeezing it hard is bad and I got 95% of it out. I used sterile cotton wipes and a decent amount of hydrogen peroxide to keep everything clean.
I worked out the puss so slowly, it's 4:15AM here and I JUST got done cleaning it and bandaging it up with sterile gauze.
This is the second time I had one, the first time was 5 years ago. Didn't know what it was back then...apparently if it comes back again I'll have to get surgery...hopefully that's at least another 5 years down the road
Now I can sleep without terrible pain

I should add that my first pilonidal cyst healed within days of it's rupture....hoping for the same here. The pain is already down to a 2-3 from a 9.

I had to get a pilonidal cyst removed and it was the most annoying pain for months!!! For the first few weeks, it was like a gaping, open wound!!! Not only that but the surgeon was absolutely horrible. I worked in the medical field and what he did was complete and utter negligence. On top of that, he cut some of my muscle so now when I clench my left butt cheek, I get discomfort!
This is similar to what it looked like... Not for people with a weak stomach!!! http://imgur.com/r/gore/8BVPhIY

My wife had one removed a year ago. She was out of work for a month and still has trouble sitting in some chairs with very straight backs. She is in less pain now though.
Good luck!
