It needs to be understood that children behave erratically, and their behavior should be as unregulated as possible. This is in line with our national values of freedom and individuality. Americuh, fuck yeah.
The add/ADHD debate always bothers me, because of how positive I am that I have it. Throughout pre-k to elementary, there was no doubt my behavior stood out from other kids. I still question whether or not how I would be today if i never got put on the meds, maybe the meds have worsened my diagnosis...
I see your point but even though they work, they still have negative side affects i don't think anyone should be obligated to endure. I'm so frusterated with the dependency I have on these meds.
What side effects are you talking about? I'm just curious because for me, the side effects from the daily dose are really minimal, especially if I've developed a tolerance over a course of weeks or months.
I don't think the meds have worsened your diagnosis unless you've abused them really severely, and even then it seems iffy to me. There is very little rebound with this stuff, most of the "withdrawal" is purely psychological since you've gotten accustomed to the benefits of being medicated. The way you describe your withdrawal (lack of motivation in particular) just sounds like ADHD to me. Speed addicts who go clean don't have trouble with motivation after the first week or two of abstinence, they have trouble with cognitive defects, and that's only because they've been taking extremely high (neurotoxic) doses on a long-term basis.
There's nothing wrong with being dependent on a drug, as long as you are not addicted to the drug (by which I mean spiraling tolerance, along with the need to constantly be taking higher doses just to stave off withdrawal symptoms) and are actually benefiting from it in the intended way. Everybody is dependent on oxygen; people with bad eyesight are dependent on glasses; diabetics are dependent on insulin; ADHD people are dependent on speed. I won't deny it sucks, but would you tell a diabetic not to take insulin just because he's afraid of needles?
Again another good point. My side effects include terrible social anxiety, inability to use public bathrooms, become very shy and to myself, depression, insomnia, loss of appetite, happy thoughts/sense of humor disappears, bit of shakiness, feel weak and almost become germaphobic/OCD. I feel like they've worsened my diagnosis because of the major personality changes i went through during high school, I went from super outgoing to a hermit. I did my best to stay off the meds so i only took them once or twice a week, on my off days as time went by i noticed, as well as friends, that I became less and less outgoing and my sleep patterns kept getting worse.

sorry if already asked but the thread is 5 pages
Yeah man, I became a coffe-a-holic this passed month. So many problems with coffee though, and now it barely has an effect on me no matter how much I drink.
