If you know what this game is then you probably already know that it is going to be the greatest game ever made, no contest, nothing can even come close. I've been following this game for probably 2 years now and god damn am I pumped.
So, any of you guys plan on buying this game? And if so what do you think about making a Shroomery Clan?
Now I don't know how you guys are planning to play this game but I'm planning on fulfilling my life long dream of being a pirate/smuggler/merc type. Running through Imperial blockades, smuggling contraband past the authorities into space ports, ambushing merchant ships, boarding them and stealing their cargo.
The ship that I'm considering is this bad boy

The Constellation, I like the idea of a bigger ship that I can walk around in. It's got a nice big cargo bay for all my illegal merchandise, two turrets, it can hold a snub fighter, 5 man crew. It looks fucking dope.
And yes for the record I am actually considering paying $275 real dollars for a virtual spaceship. I don't know how I feel about that, but I guess it just shows how pumped I am about this game.
So what do you future SC players say? Shroomery Clan of renegade outlaws, smugglers, pirates, mercs etc..? Obviously we are going to need some sort of badass name. Maybe if someone out there is good at computer graphics or whatever they could make us a badass logo. I was also thinking we could make a user created forum for our clan/general discussion about Star Citizen, I'm not exactly sure how user created forums work though, do you have to like apply for one or what?
And yes I know the actually complete game won't be out until the start of 2015, but that being said, the dogfight mode and planet side mode will both be out this year, and the beta will be out like mid 2014 and it is more or less the full game.
So what do you guys think?

Yeahhhh I feel like the website is sort of aimed at people who already know what the game is about.
Let's see......it's a pretty fucking massive game.....
Well first off it is a Space Sim
Basically you get a space ship, there are all different kinds. Single pilot fighters, Two pilot fighter, multi crew ships like the one in the OP, big ass corvettes, and then you have the capital ships which are massive but no one person actually controls them. They can be captured and change hands.
It is a massive open world, like huge, like nothing that has ever been done before. 50 star systems, planets, cities, space stations, asteroid bases, all sorts of shit. It's persistent universe, shit is happening all the time.
You can basically be anything you want. A military fighter pilot, an explorer, a merchant, you can set up factories and build weapons, the economy is completely player driven. You can take jobs from other players or NPC's, so let's say I'm a merc and some merchant player needs someone to protect his cargo ships from pirates, he can hire me to do the job.
There is so much more shit but I really not to stop typing atm

dang sounds crazy, I probably couldn't run it
so is all the gameplay in a cockpit or do you have a character that can walk around the world/ship? are there ships that take multiple people to control?
sounds really cool, but hard to pull off.

Seems like an interesting concept but it's likely gonna be a letdown. Don't spend $275 on a virtual ship... you might find yourself thinking the game isn't even worth $60 for all ya know.
And what happens when you get bored of it? Even if it's a smash hit, if it's absolutely amazing, what are you gonna do when you're tired of it but you feel like you should get more entertainment out of the $275?
Look, I used to play a videogame with microtransactions for virtual items myself, and let me tell you, having quit the game a while back, one of my biggest all-time regrets is wasting the amount I did on virtual in-game items. Don't make the mistake I did, spending exorbitant amounts of money just to have a new gun or item in a game.

Yeah you have a character that you can customize. You can walk around in third or first person. There will be on foot combat, like you can board another players ship and try to take it over. The ship in the OP takes a 5 man crew I think, you can either have your friends with you or you can hire NPC's. Ther are bigger ships though, I think the largest player controlled ship is currently at like a crew of 7 or 8.
It has been in development for a long long time so I think it'll probably turn out pretty good.

Plenty of highly anticipated games with long dev times turned out poorly. I'm not saying this one will, but... I can already see a few problems with the equation, openings for scams and exploits, etcetera...

Just sayin', I wouldn't drop $275 on the ship if I was you.

I can't really see it being a letdown. Chris Roberts, the guy who is making it, made a couple of really well known Space Sims in the late 90's and early 2000's. The main problem with those games was that he had to go through big publishers like Microsoft who watered the games down.
Star Citizen on the other hand is completely crowd funded. Roberts has his own dev team so he can basically do whatever he wants. It has been in development for a long ass time and technically still won't be out for another two years, plenty of time to polish it up.
I honestly don't think I could see myself getting bored of this game, not for a long long time anyway. They have mentioned that there will be weekly to biweekly content updates, and not wimpy little updates, they are talking about pretty decent chunks of free content. New star systems, new ships, new weapons, game play elements etc... Not to mention what the mod community will do to it once they get their hands on the source code.
I do agree that spending $275 on a virtual ship is completely insane but I have money to throw around these days. I actually get a bunch of shit for the $275 package. Alpha and Beta access, the full game when it is released, a physical replica of the ship, all that other special addition crap (making of the game, art books etc..etc..) $10,000 in game credits. Yeah that's about it I think.
The game won't really have any microtransactions when it comes out. These packages are just for people who back the game, being as it's crowd funded and all. It's like you give us money and here is some cool shit to get you started once the game comes out.

so he's funding it through Kickstarter? Hope it ends up working out, sounds like it could be a breakthrough in gaming if he pulls it off.

Yup, it is actually the largest crowd funded project of all time, like literally speaking. I think they are getting ready to break the 16 million barrier this month. Crazy shit, I think it will be interesting to see how crowdfunding is going to impact big game publishers in the future.

I personally think Kickstarter is a great idea, it could potentially be used to help establish new ip's that otherwise would never get made due to the risks associated with trying something new in gaming.

Wow, I totally haven't heard that one 50 thousand times since this game was announced
My bet: They put out an awesome game and the shitty community ruins it
OR
They let everyone down.
Either way you lose.

Actually not everyone was a noob. Being a noob is a very new phenomenon. Many people, the great majority in fact, were simply "beginners", "novices" or "new to mushroom growing". Being a "noob" is reserved, and in fact created specifically for and by, the newer, much more lame generations coming about. -Shpongle1

From the moment I learned of this game I was instantly interested as hell!
it's awfully ambitious so I'm just worried that it might not turn out to be as great as it seems, however it is being funded and developed by fellow gamers.

Fuck yeah Star Citizen! I'm so fucking excited for this game. I actually built a PC for this reason, . I made a thread on it a couple of months ago here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17753417#17753417.
I think I'm going to do the $65 pledge and get the Origin 325i. I still need a new video card before I can play it though, but I have a while to save up for that.

I finally remembered after getting paid to sign up and put in my funding cash. I meant to months and months ago but kept forgetting when I actually HAD money.
They just passed the 24 million mark which is awesome. I picked up the digital bounty hunter pack. The origin 300i ship and alpha/beta./etc package.
