Thanks.  It's hard to know what to choose to set down since what stands out in my head are things that also stand out in my heart.  Although drugs are involved or present, they're not necessarily central to the story chosen to answer the question.  Which were GREAT questions, BTW Learyfan!

Maybe that's why I never really had a "problem" with any substance.  Throughout my life they're just peripherally involved - mostly in reasonable doses with the exception of one or two (OK...or three) times.

Q:  Whatever happened to you and "M"?

A:  She took a page out of my play book and sold her car, went trekking throughout Europe while I was engrossed in my studies in medical school.  She wanted to tour Europe, see some of the great museums, statues and paintings.  Like I said earlier, she was a wonderful artist.  Painting and sculpting was her passion.  She created marvelous images.

She was SUPPOSED to have been gone only three months, but ended up staying away an entire year traveling by train and staying in youth hostels.  Our relationship disintegrated over an emotionally painful series of  expensive long-distance phone calls over those last nine months.  I wanted her home, safe, with me or her parents, but she had her own agenda.  She felt I wouldn’t have time for her, plus I was living in a small dorm room on campus.  Her refusal to come home put me into a serious funk...but perversely, the need for distraction from my loneliness and grief drove me harder into my studies.

When she did finally come back home, she was afraid to see me initially, since there had been so much pain in the long-distant break-up.  We actually got back together for about a year after her return, but marriage, which was now becoming a high priority for her was out of the question for me.  I had no way to support her as a medical student, and sure as heck couldn’t agree to start a family, which is what she wanted.  She eventually moved to Canada and married an architect.  M was the closest thing to a soul-mate I ever had.

Q:  That's crazy that your worst psychedelic experience was on Scully and Sand's orange sunshine.  That acid had a great reputation for being extremely pure and for producing great trips.  It sounds like your set and setting was the issue there, given the fact that you were an experienced tripper.  Did you ever have a good experience on orange sunshine or was that your only time with it?

A: Well, what you need to know was that the Orange Sunshine I took I later learned was referred to as “four-ply.”  It was laid VERY heavy.  It was a small orange barrel shape that was supposed to be quartered and split with three other people.  Hence...the result you read about.

Q:  What year was the bad orange sunshine trip?  I'm just curious, because I have heard that that brand was so well respected that other inferior products were sold under the name.

A:  Pretty sure it was 1970.

Q:  Did you ever take another psychedelic after that bad trip?

A: Yes, but it was a long time, and NOT acid.  I tripped on shrooms a few times, but again, I still had family issues in the wake of that LSD mishap, money issues, and school to think about.  Mostly my friends and I got more into the habit of drinking beer, wine and smoking pot, sometimes hash.

Q:  When was your last psychedelic trip, with the exception of the salvia mishap?

A: About a month ago.  Search my name and “pill-huasca” for recent trip reports.  Was thinking of doing some tonight as a matter of fact.

Q:  You said that at the Festival Of Hope, that Grace Slick came out with nothing but a bandana as a top?  Do you mean that her top looked like a bandana or that she was completely nude, except for the bandana on her head?  Was she wearing pants?

A:  Ha! Sorry for the confusion.  She was wearing a skimpy halter top she fashioned out of what appeared to be a bandana - no bra, knotted in the back.  Yes, she was most certainly wearing pants!!!

M sounds lovely, too bad it didn't work out NatureBoy but life by the sounds of it has been great and you eventually had a family of your own.  Thanks Learyfan for the post, I'm new so I'm going to take some time to read your other interviews.

Interesting.  So I wonder if those four-ply pills were the same pills that I had heard about.  I thought Scully and Sand made all of those at 300ug each.  I wonder if those are the same.  I guess you could split those between four people and still trip pretty hard.

Well, IMHO they were producing a product that was definitely meant to be shared.  Although not scored, they cut perfectly with a razor with no crumbling.

If there is any truth to the rumor that LSD can be absorbed through the skin, I do remember handling the doses and counting them out in the foil to make sure there were ten.  Since it was prior to being launched into the strangeosphere, I remember that part!

A large enough amount of acid will certainly absorb through the skin.

Thank you for taking the time. Great answers! I had a smile on my face the entire time. You grew up in a really interesting time in history and really made something of yourself, it would seem by adhering to delicate balance in your recreational drug usage.
