My theory.
Universe is expanding but eventually it will contract causing the big bang to happen again. There is no randomness in the universe so the big bang will happen exactly as it has previously. Meaning the exact same outcome and the exact same universe is being replayed over a VERY long time frame.
The good news?
When youre dead, time (the perception of it) is no more

The end result of my theory is that you are instantly reborn after death as the same person, and you live the same life. You are obviously completely unaware. Except for perhaps deja vu?? Not sure about that part but my friend suggested it and I've grown fond of using that to reason my theory.

Tldr: we are a film on repeat.

I fully belive that that is what happens. That is probably the only type of theory that would explain Deja Vu.. :bow2:

no.

Deja vu is caused by one hemisphere of your brain transmitting a signal of something to your short term memory fractions of a second before the other hemisphere, giving you the temporary illusion that current events strongly resemble/are identical to something that has happened already.

sorry.

Consciousness is an emergent property of the massive number of neurons in the brain. When those neurons stop functioning, consciousness and you cease to exist.

The existence of neurons doesn't relate anything to the idea of whether or not there is a life after death. Anyone who believes in a life after death would consider the body to be like a vehicle, neurons are only part of the body.

I find it strange when secularists point to some functioning of the body as reflecting on the whole idea, as if no one was previously aware that the body dies at the death of the body.

well, you can believe whatever you want. It is called wishful thinking. Try to remove the very difficult to dismiss feeling that it can't just end, and it is easier to see that it does.

I think we are reborn..As something else...possibly not even on this planet..maybe even on another planet..or maybe we become a star.

Either way, we will come back or continue on forever.

Now in a more serious sense : Like energy, consciousness cannot be created or destroyed. Your consciousness is energy that will change form when you die but eventually will come back into action in another organism (after a period). So as long as other beings continue to exist you are immortal. If every living organism was to be destroyed, then it would be complete nothingness.

To be 100% honest it is only one theory of many.

However, it seems to me to be the best researched and most likely cause.
you can  investigate case studies involving people with epilepsy who frequently experience Deja Vu.

Here is a good peer-reviewed place for you to start

http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ert/2012/539567/abs/

Quote:
Our hypothesis converges on a parahippocampal dysfunction as the locus of déjà vu experiences.  However, several other temporal lobe structures feature in reports of déjà vu in epilepsy.  We suggest that some of the inconsistency in the literature derives from a poor classification of the various types of déjà experiences.  We propose déjà vu/déjà vécu as one way of understanding déjà experiences more fully.  This distinction is based on current models of memory function, where déjà vu is caused by erroneous familiarity and déjà vécu by erroneous recollection.  Priorities for future research and clinical issues are discussed.

they acknowledge themselves at the end of their abstract that

I shouldn't have said it as fact.  I just find it highly more likely and scientifically valid than something based on a "hunch" or a "spiritual inkling".

I am just a very logical and scientifically-oriented person, i mean nobody disrespect, including the person who I corrected.  He also may be correct but I find it to be highly unlikely

I'm not trying to discredit your ideas concerning dejavu, but just to add a thought to the whole thing. Many times I'll have dejavu and remember the experience from a dream, and to add something to that I record my dreams an can sometimes go back and find it on paper.

What is actually happening there, if you were to take my word or have the same experience. Is another question although I have my own ideas.

I don't doubt that there are forces in this world that we don't understand, and I don't disbelieve you either.

I think that it may be a coincidence, I think that some things are inevitable given past decisions and actions, and that sometimes our subconscious can see something will happen before our conscious mind.

For example, need I drop an apple to know that it will fall to the ground?

It may be possible that our subconscious is aware of future events in much the same way, but on a different time scale.

I believe that these basic understandings of the world around us go far beyond what we are aware of.

Another example would be the strange behavior of animals before natural disasters.

 you're asking me a really big question man but that's my best answer I can come up with

While I tend to think there's some mystical significance behind the it, there are alternatives.

Self-fulfilling prophecies, events which can be seen coming if one were to put 2 and 2 together which is done subconsciously and inserted into dream, or a stranger thing regarding the illusory nature of the world but not necessarily with any mystical significance.

Life sure is entertaining though, it amazes me how much one can experience inside or out contrasted with what the average person fills their life with.

Also remember that the idea that we are essentially a "movie on repeat" and my theory regarding memory dysfunction are not mutually exclusive.

both can be true, or both can be false.

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

This isn't the second law of thermodynamics.  That is a theory.  Also the second law of thermodynamics is in relations to a closed system, the universe is an open system and not relatable.

As to the original question, I think its the same as it was before you were born.

I believe in the concept of samsara. We are reborn continuously and our karma which we accumulate during our lifetime determines the circumstances of our next birth. The goal is to break free from the cycle through moksha or self-realization.

Dmt feels like death to me. Not in a morbid way but beautifully. It is an intuitive sensation that is strong when I'm tripping.

dmt feels like life to me. it feels like death too. it feels like i've died and am living in some postmortem dream state. but then, i begin to realize that this dream-state is not really much different from anything else i've ever experienced during my existence. because i am being there to experience it. as long as there is an experience, there is an experiencer. as long as there is an experiencer, nothing has ever really "gone away". it's always been here (consciousness), because if it wasn't, then there would be no experience

Dmt feels like a release which is what I imagine death is like. Sometimes when I'm in deep enough I forget who I am and what I am doing and just become "it". It makes me feel light like I have no body and I'm just awareness. I cant even feel myself breathing.

It has played a huge part in my growing interest in spirituality.

DMT is neither life nor death. It is a chemical that disrupts the normal sensory inputs and processing. There is nothing mystical about it... No more spiritual than the disruption of pain when you get a shot of lidocaine or the sensation of heat when you put hot peppers in your mouth.
