starfire you use amazon as an example but they are in support of this act:

Quote:
Even Amazon, who once stood against the Marketplace Fairness Act, is now for it. Daily Finance has this statement from Amazon:

"Amazon.com has long supported a simplified nationwide approach that is evenhandedly applied and applicable to all but the smallest volume sellers," Amazon VP Paul Misener wrote in a letter supporting the bill. "With this in mind, I am writing to thank you for your bill, which will allow states with simplified rules to require sales tax collection by out-of-state sellers who choose to make sales to in-state buyers."
It's not just Amazon, a number of businesses have stepped up in support of the bill because it makes their jobs a little easier.

Ebay on the other hand has been sending out emails to all registered buyers/sellers urging them to write to their congressman to try and stop the passage of this act.

Quote:
Ebay wants to see the income limit for online retailers lifted to from $1 million to $10 million to ensure that more online businesses are exempt from paying the sales tax. As you'd expect, many politicians who are opposed to taxation in general are also against the bill, especially those from states like Oregon, Montana, and New Hampshire that have no sales tax.

The feds are pushing this because more taxes will increase revenue.

Brick and mortar big box stores are pushing this because it levels the playing field in terms of pricing.

Give me a fucking break.  They say the act is to allow the local stores to compete, yet I can go on Amazon or Newegg Right now, pay shipping, taxes, and still get a lower price in the end than you get from big box retailers like Best Buy, Guitar Center, etc.  I mean, in some cases they have their shit marked up 40% over the amazon price.  And that is before taxes.

Fuck those assholes.  What do you think?

I agree 100%. "Internet fairness" my ass. Retail stores are upset because for once they're facing real competition (what a concept!), and no one wants to buy anything anymore from their awful selection of shitty marked up damaged products sold by a bunch of asshole teenage employees.

Retail stores are complete shit compared to online shopping. They can't compete so they resort to stupid shit like this.

I can go onto Amazon any time of the day or night without leaving my chair, browse through their mindblowingly massive selection, and order anything brand new without having to deal with a single stupid employee or lines or out of stock shit or damaged products or screaming babies or asshole customers, without wasting gas, and some dude even brings it straight to my door for me, and I get all of that FOR LESS MONEY. Fuck retail.

Remember what Obama said, " if you earn less than $250,000 none of your taxes will go up."

Like Rush says, "see, I told you."
