I transferred universities half way through my undergraduate experience. The university I originally went to was super safe, you could leave your wallet in a main area and you'd have it returned to you. I got spoiled, and when I transferred I assumed my new university would be the same way. I left my car key, wallet, and cell phone containing clothes and backpack in an un-locked gym locker while I worked out. When I returned to change, I found my stuff gone. I wish I could say I played it cool, but I lost my shit. I called campus police, and ran to my car to make sure it wasn't stolen/in the process of being stolen.

Eventually, upon the advice of the campus policeman, I returned to the gym locker room and opened every locker. Eventually I found my backpack, clothes, wallet, keys, etc. After an hour of incessant worry I noticed that the only material thing I lost was $3.

It wasn't much money, but I lost my calm. I decided that next time something like that happened, I'd be more calm and collected. I hope the experience gave you some some lesson. If not, at least it gave you a good story.
