Splenda. The substitute sweetner stuff.
    #18240692 -

Is it really unhealthy for you -- or even potentially dangerous? I've heard this from a number of people. I just want to know if this is proven or just a myth.

Yes, it turns into an Excitotoxin like MSG once you eat it called Aspartate. even though this is a natural chemical, having high levels of it circulating in your blood is not natural and it causes over excitation of NMDA receptors which leads certain types of neurons to fill themselves up with calcium ions, leading to cell death.

Old people steal it all the time so it must be good for you.

it's natural like sugar, but has 0 calories, 0 carbs, and a 0 glycemic index. it has fiber in it which is good, and it's pretty tasty.  :billymayshead: Sweetness as nature intended.™

natural doesnt necessarily mean safe, regular sucrose is sweetness as nature intended for the most part... i dont know anything about Stevia though so for all i know it could be good for you

is there a particular reason your cutting out sugar OP? unless your on a ketogenic diet i dont really see the point

Nahhh not really, I was just trying to cut back on my calorie intake; been working out and stuff and trying to get leaner. But then a number of people told me that Splenda was unhealthy and borderline dangerous for you long term.

Check out xylitol. It tastes pretty much like real sugar and it is actually good for your teeth.

I read Sucralose was originally invented as an insecticide, but remarketed as an artificial sweetener because of it's taste.

I also read Stevia is like 300 times sweeter than sugar. It has a long history of use as a sweetener in Europe & the FDA had it illegal for a while here to protect the Artificial Sweetener industry.
Speaking of Stevia, if you ever see Hurberts lemonade, grab some. It's awesome.

wow, this stuff looks reallly cool. im gonna try using it in my tea instead of sugar, so i dont have to feel guilty about tasting my sweet teas extra long.

edit: although, it didnt take much searching to find a lot of potential problems with this stuff. its not really necessarily natural and one article is suggesting a nickle-aluminum alloy is used in its manufacture. Heavy metals like those two are some of the worst things you can come into contact with. could be disinformation from companies with alterior motives though  ill probably give it a try and as long as i tolerate it well ill use it in my tea. im not looking to replace sugar
