it seems like people are incredibly scared to step on each others toes nowadays....


just one example:

Getting offended by a word alone is incredibly stupid, IMO - but I'm hard to offend.

People could probably say the word cunt to me all the live long day, and I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Its the principle.  The idea that every word that includes man in it is somehow gender-specific is stupid.  Maybe we should change woman, since it has man in it, so as not to offend the uhm... non men.


Its just dumb.  We have a perfectly servicable language and there's no reason to make it more complicated than it is allready through all this form over substance horseshit.  Bigotry exists independant of language.

Well, I don't really think there is any "political correctness" "movement". Words change over time. Mores change and people adjust their language accordingly.

A while ago somebody got into a big tizzy because apparently some black dude in a city council ragged on some white dude for calling a department of the government a "black hole" for tax dollars. It was taken (allegedly) as a racist comment, when clearly it was a reference to the astrophysical phenomenon that has nothing to do with race. Stephen Hawking was quoted at the end of the article as saying that black holes should really just be called "singularities".

Well, Stephen Hawking is right. Black hole is not an appropriate description for "black holes". They are not holes at all. It would be better to call them something more descriptive. But this guy was infuriated that popular opinion might change this treasured word. Why?

Political correctness is becoming every-increasingly asinine, to the point of absurdity. The process of gender-neutralizing generic antecedents to avoid pissing off certain people is the dumbest shit ever.
