"The Dark Knight" Trilogy is miles above most super hero movies

I realize this isn't exactly news but I wanted to share this anyway just because. You might not be a fan of superhero movies because of what they usually entail, mad scientist save the world bullshit, even the highly regarded Iron Man films with the new one coming out soon aren't really that great.

But the Nolan Batman films are something else. Not only are they three fantastic films, they all tie together into one large story arc with a fantastic ending. The first film shows us Bruce Wayne's training in great detail (which a lot of people feel it's boring and unnecessary because it's not Batman, but its still crucial to this storyline and I'm glad they didnt leave it out). I understand going to the theater wanting to see Batman and being disappointed, but now, looking back, it's a great film, and the ninja stuff is very very good. Then you got the origin of Batman himself which is great.

The second movie is just fantastic. Batman being Batman the whole way through and the Joker is excellent, waaaaaaay better than the fucking Green Goblin or whatever else you have in your typical superhero flicks. And the third movie focuses a lot on Bruce, both himself and Batman and its a great arc for the character, we dont see Batman himself in action that much but that's what makes the movie interesting. The side characters are all spot on. and Bane is the most threatening villain and the only one to outmatch Batman in physical strength which is nice. He's not as unique as the Joker, but we already had the Joker last film. He's still very awesome

Great fucking films. This aint some Spiderman shit

Don't get me wrong I love a lot of them too. But what I'm saying is these films go the extra mile

Really the only ones I truly dislike are the Spiderman ones especially the new one. So bad.

I love the spiderman movies. More than the Batman movies. Spiderman always my favorite SH growing up.

Batman has no superpowers except money. I dunno, he's the weakest superhero.

I totally see your point but really Bruce Wayne is an interesting character, and Batman is the absolute peak of humanity, both physically and mentally, thats what makes him so interesting IMO it's that hes the top of human potential without going into stuff that isnt possible in the real world (well, sort of. but certainly more grounded than superpowers)

But still yeah its all a matter of opinion. did you like the spiderman reboot though?

i might agree had they gone with the original frank miller comic of the same title and not christopher nolan's version of what he thinks a batman movie should be. i still enjoyed them though. 'watchmen' has been my favorite comic adaptation so far.

i would like to see 'planetary' and 'the authority' brought to the big screen. both would work so well with huge budgets and would provide more than just summer popcorn trash.

Fully agree with your OP, I'm a huge fan of the series. I love everything about it. Nolan's cinematography is fantastic, the character development is very rich compared to many films and overall it's such a cohesive piece of work. I'd go out on a limb and say that The Dark Knight Triology is one of the greatest cinematic series I've ever seen, if not the greatest. :yesnod:

Plus I love the message of Christopher Nolan's Batman, he really brought the whole hero to life I think. The message that Batman could really be any one of us is such a strong undertow throughout the series which is brought to a beautiful crescendo when the city of Gotham undergoes tragedy in the third film and rises from the ashes with a sense of community.

Inspiring as fuck and beautiful to watch. :awepreciation:

I agree about Watchmen definitely one of the best comic book adaptations. So is Kick-Ass

Why? Like I get not liking him, but hating him? Every time I've heard someone say that it's backed up with something about how he's lame because he doesn't have any real powers and doesn't kill anyone. I think those things make him much more awesome than any other superhero, though the genetic mutation aspect of Peter Parker is pretty cool too.

The Adam West Batman film is the only real Batman film. The Tim Burton films, and in some ways the Nolan films, are pretty decent too, though I feel like the Nolan ones try way too hard and are too bombastic.

I have no patience for Avengers/Iron Man crap though.

Absolutely. Cohesive is a nice way to put it. Great overall story divided into distinct and memorable films.

I've actually never seen "The Dark Knight Returns" two part animated film, which is an adaptation of the frank miller stuff. I think I found something to accompany my weed bowl tonight

the first two were pretty great, third one was awful, I could not have been more bored or let down with that movie.

the ending was absolute garbage and the whole "batman can be anyone" is contradicted when he tells all those batman lookalikes that only HE can be batman. :rolleyes:

the adaptation of the frank miller comic is really good imo. worth watching.

but, it would've been much cooler had christopher nolan directed it with the budget he had.

"I'm not wearing hockey pads". Batman can be anyone as long as they do it right, you cant go around being a geek dressed as Batman you gotta know what youre doing. That's not Batman. That only works in the kick-ass universe.

I thought the ending was great.

The point isn't that anyone can literally take on the physical role that Batman did without training. He was physically adept because of his years working towards that, so some random joe shmoe in a costume can't literally be a good super hero. The idea that Batman can be anyone is the point that you can pretty much do anything you put your mind and energy into, and the fact that even a small positive gesture can have a hugely positive impact on the lives of others, something we're all capable of.

Did you miss this quote? It summed up the entire point of the series pretty well: "A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy’s shoulders, to let him know the world hadn’t ended."

which movie is the quote from? if it's from the third i'm sure there is a decent chance I missed it, had a hard time staying focused throughout.

maybe my distaste comes from the villain choice, or just the way they did Bane at all. I thought the scarecrow was cooler.

The third. I don't know why people find that one boring, I think everyone got too used to the action and explosions in the first two (namely the second) and missed what the real point of the series was. I honestly think the first is less interesting than the last but I haven't seen the first in a while.
