Beddy interesting. I'm trying to visualize how this actually happens. I assume the iodide forms a double bond with one of the oxygens, immediately deflecting its bonding electrons to the adjacent oxygen and hydrogen which bond with each other.

I'm having a harder time figuring out the second reaction.

(If I can merge procrastination with my studies, I could ace every class. )
