Here & Now is psychedelic, mysterious
    #17890078 -

Terence McKenna said the world was a living mystery, and that consciousness as a whole on this planet was moving into the "field of a mystery", he further said psychedelics primarily make the brain function such that it is involuntarily here and now.

So I'm thinking if I focus on the present and learn how to live it, I will eventually begin to trip and/or experience a mystery.

Is this plausible, given your experience?

Yes, very much so, although in sober realization the usual pandemonium of a 'psychedelic state' is much much more 'stretched out' for want of a better term, yet that exact same clarity & full presence of LIFE is there, similar to or even indistinguishable from the psilocybin state, in my experience

Really 'learning how to live in it' or 'focusing on it' are an oxymorons, because you are it!

So the deepening of understanding or learning, which does take place, is really just some sort of non-dualistic remembering that the present or whatever we like to call it, is all there is, there is nothing else! I Am That!

Usually when we first start taking mushrooms we pretty much all have that moment of fear where we feel 'im going to be like this forever!', so maybe one of the questions we have to ask ourselves is, are we over that fear?
Do we welcome identity loss or fear it?

I don't really get all this "Now" business. You're always in the Now, nothing can change it. Even when thinking to the future or the past you're still in the Now. And if being in the Now entails forgetting memories to not live in the past or disregarding the imagination or planning for the future that's just plain stupid

You can never focus on the "here and now" because your brain takes almost 1/10th of a second to process information

You're living in the past

First you have to understand the constriction on consciousness, and the body, put on us by the control freaks. The looking into this is, IMO, the questioning and undermining of it.

It begins as soon as we come out of the mum's womb when the male-dominated medical profession who force women to have babies like they think they should/must, give us a bad first vibe of arrival.

Then we are most likely to feel our parents stress as they try to raise us with all the economic problems etc, and then it is school where we are drilled with their deadening materialist philosophy designed to cut our sensuality off from our bodies and others and nature. So to understand all this.

Then see what psychedelic experience can inspire (though I have seen some who fight it). They make you GIGGLE! Laughing its a great way to see through false shit, and to feel joy and ecstasy.

You also laugh in a very surreal way. You see things from very strange perspectives. So your usual rigid thinking and feeling about things, others, yourself, and reality is being dissolved. So nurture that, and when you 'return' learn to allow these insights into your life. A surreal sense of humour. Become more flowing with life and not worrying what others think.

One of the control freaks central social controling myths is the myth of mental illness which can act like an ongoing straightjacket on your body mind and soul. It makes you fearful of feeling different from others, and thinking and feeling 'strange things', or acting 'different'. On a trip you usually allow 'strange behaviour etc' because you know 'I am tripping'. But when you 'get back' that blanket of oppression may return. So begin seeing through it. Question everything... Sing, dance, laugh, and explore what your thinking and feeling~~~

Good comments in this thread.

I think it behooves us all to get over the idea of "living in the here/now" as some kind of ecstatic, trippy experience.  Read the testimonies of the adept.  Read Alan Watts.  He described it better, for Westerners, than perhaps any other modern-day writer.

You don't necessarily "see lights" and hear the "Symphony of the Cosmos" constantly in the background, when you're living the here/now.  Life is still sometimes mundane.  Your hemorrhoids still itch and bother the hell out of you.

What you do experience (and this is my experience) is an underlying non-contingent contentment in life.

You don't need "happy time" in order to be content.  You don't need drugs or booze.  Those things are nice and have their time and place, but your underlying contentment isn't contingent upon them.

(Anyone out there relating to this shit?)

Yes. to me it is becoming real. it is loving yourself warts and all, and that means others too. But that includes that some others will seriously turn you off. Why do they? How are you looking and feeling them.
This is why I encourage observing people when on psychedelics. if you can't do it in real life, watch TV--preferably programmes where the people are not acting.
When you observe how do you see and feel them. Pay close attention and bring the insights back to reintegrate.
For me psychedelics inspire direct awareness

It's not about neurology or completely running from the past or future, it's about being present and sensing something altogether different. You can stop and go do your groceries, or work your job, but it's always there, in the awareness itself.

So I think I'm leaning more towards the idea of the manifestation of imagination here.

I declare it a fact of experience that everything is imagination. So if you focus on the present, or you just focus, the imagination should start to sneak into what was previously your "normal environment".

I was outside just now. Quite lucid, quite a nice day, and I was staring at some stuff on the ground, and I focused on something then looked up and it was all different. This is what I mean.

It's always going to be "here/now" or rather, instantaneous.

You can not, in my opinion, "will" yourself into illumination.  Into a mystical state.  I don't think it works that way.

Maybe I'm wrong.

If anyone reading here knows how one can "will" oneself into illumination, publish a book on it and I guarantee you that you'll be a multi-billionaire in one week's time.

Yes, this is correct. The kind of absorption into the present you need, is the kind of absorption you experience when you smoke DMT or peak on a heroic dose of some hallucinogen. What creates the trip/mystery is the ego dissolution & total absorption into the infinite. BEing the infinite, you thus peer into your Self and then your nature is psychedelic.

It may take years, or hours to cultivate the necessary level of concentration but I assure you it is certainly possible as I do it regularly now. It helps to be on a heavy dose of harmala alkaloids as they light up the pathways that Chi most naturally flows through. By moving your physical self through the lines that are most Tao-aligned, you will experience your consciousness starting to loop into itself like a mirror looks into a reflection of itself. In this looping, you may exert omnipotent control over the entire universe but in truth, it is a surrendering to the Will which is already omnipotent.

So why do you feel ultimate power in this state? Do not think it is a breach of free will or any change. Rather, the omnipotent Self is always exploring its own psychedelia in whatever way it pleases. When you enter this Samadhi state, you merely join the party that has been happening for eternity, as if you were at the bar this whole time and you finally stepped onto the dance floor. So that exertion of your omnipotent will in such a state does not mean that you have any more or less power than you did as a normal human being in the alpha/beta brainwave range, but rather you become aware of the true power that is already flowing forever through Beingness. By entering this state you did not create the rapid river of Tao, but you certainly did discover it within yourself and dived in head first.

This is actually quite literally true. In sober reality our brainwaves tend to oscillate around 0Hz-14Hz. Conversely Samadhi requires a gamma state, over 40Hz-infinity. So you have to accelerate yourself by at least a factor of 3 to even delve into psychedelic pandemonium. Note that it also needs those gamma waves to be embedded into theta/delta waves, 0Hz-8Hz. You need to be in a state of hyperfine consciousness at total rest, total death. Samadhi feels like being in REM or deep sleep, your body loses all physical weight.

The way to enter this state is to practice full spectrum meditation. Do not stick to one practice; although the ruthless cultivation of a single practice will get you there; rather do sitting meditation, standing, lying, bowing, prostrating, moving meditation, flying meditation, dreaming meditation, OBE meditation, 3rd eye meditation, hearing meditation/sound/mantra meditation, kundalini meditation, yoga, tai chi, wing chun, chi kung... You get the picture: be a FULL SPECTRUM WARRIOR. I know that many traditions say "stick to one path, and make sure that path happens to be our path" but I entirely disagree; so long as a person cultivates insight and is relentless in eradicating delusions by constant abiding in God, they cannot be mislead by mortals. It is for God to guide & to destroy, so put your trust in the Source of wisdom.

Explore the full range of human experience and find the point within your being which resonates with total serenity, and a sensation of healing & repair. The sensation of healing & repair is the closest sensation to the flow of energy which induces Samadhi of any level, healing & gratitude merge into one force in Samadhi.

Above all... DANCE! A person in a state of dance cannot be in a state of suffering or distraction and a person in a state of suffering or distraction cannot be in a state of DANCE!

Get over the idea of people watching you, get under into a state of Zen and forget about the world, focus entirely on being a fluid being like all the birds you see in the sky. In a true state of dance, Samadhi is entered within mere seconds. You can sit around chanting like a trollop for decades with nothing but a nice robe to show for it and some bald headed friends, or you can dance for a few hours and dive straight into the Void. Or you can do both, which is even better

Are you a theist?

If so, that's a perfectly fine thing to be, but that's only one (and a very "specialized") way to experience mystical insight.

Personally, "putting one's trust" elsewhere -- in someone else or in some other authority figure (God, Jesus, the Buddha, whatever) -- strikes me as the antitheses of mystical insight... but we all see this stuff differently.
