Getting a server hosted..

I don't know much about this.. I just purchased the domain for Skultamaphon.com, and now I need a server to host it on? I'm poor, and no credit card, how does one in such a situation go about such a venture? Would anyone be willing to host my band's site? It would probably not eat up a much bandwidth, just a few pages, some pictures, a few music files.. not millions of visitors everyday or anything..not yet anyway..

Help?

just find a cheap virtual host. make sure they allow media files though so you can have those sound files.

Heh, it's not the willingness to pay, it's the lack of a credit card. I've been looking and have come to the conclusion that free hosts suck for band websites.

I use HostSave to host my domain, and I think they allow prepayment with a check. I pay 3 or 6 months at a time.

If you have a permanent connection you can set up an Apache server, i don't know about the DNS registration though.

To get bind to work with extranets (internet) you must update the whois database to point the nameserver record to the server you have that is running bind.

When my computer goes out to find your computer, it goes to internic and asks for the name server(s) that are authoritative over your domain. My computer then goes to your name server and asks it for the IP address associated to the name that I have specified. My computer can then connect to the IP address that is returned by your server.

Usually there is a DNS server that makes these requests from my end to your end on my behalf. The local DNS server then caches the results to speed up future requests, but the idea is pretty mucht he same.
