cannabis seed
    #17824140 -

I recently sowed some SFV og kush, self seeding plant, so I'm thinking the plant must have seeded itself at the end of its life to have found seeds in the bud. It was from a oz purchased through a high end cannabis dispensary.

Some of the seeds were nice size and dark/tiger stripped and a couple others a smaller beige none stripped. I've heard plants that produce seed in this manner are mostly feminized. Its odd because the nice tiger stripped seeds are producing smaller baby leaves(the first 2 seedling leaves, not the true leaves.) The beige seeds are producing much larger baby leaves. Could this be an early detector of a hermaphrodite plant?

Here are the results of the beige seed

And the tiger stripped seeds

edit: Its lemon cucumber sorry!

Nice seedlings there.
I would not be happy though if medicine from a high end dispensery had seeds in it.

Thanks, It actually was some of the best bud I've ever had. I am kind of glad it had seeds because I can now grow it hehe. But that was the first and only time I've gotten seeds from them and the oz was really cheap so I can't complain.

Yep a sativa dominate OG strain. Apparently self seeding if allowed to mature to much, unless that happens to all cannabis I'm not sure. I'm new to the world of cannabis growing. Truthfully I have no idea what I'm doing but I picked up some BMO organic fert. I'm considering following this guys regimen for it and adding the High P guano if I can find it at a local hydroponic shop. And I guess if these bottles aren't enough for my 4-6 plant outdoor grow then I'll have to get more or try a different product. I like the idea of keeping it organic though.

This is my post on growery
http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/659309 seems like a very slow board.

I see what your saying about the first picture not looking like cannabis. That's what I've been thinking too. Its weird to me that they would emerge so different looking, same general shape but the size is mainly what is confusing me. Maybe its the different substrate.

I do have a horrible memory but I'm almost positive that those were the cups that I put the beige seeds in from the same bud. The only thing I sowed in the sandy looking soil was Nicotiana jasmine, avocado, and the beige seeds. I'm sure I can rule out the first two because they are emerging from below in the same spots that I sowed the beige and the nicotiana was sown scattered on the top.

edit: I'm thinking the first picture is nicotiana jasmine. One just emerged from the far side of the cup and I know I didn't sow any cannabis there. Plus the sandy soil cannabis is starting to emerge just as the others had, slender, tall, and with the seed shell still attached. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah bro, I've sprouted many a cannabis plant and I know what cotyledon leaves are. :smirk:

The stem looks too light green and the leaves are quite a bit bigger than I've ever seen. Also, the veins in the leaves don't look right either.  I would be willing to bet those turn out to be something else.

I've germ'd seeds in some soil before and had some weird shit pop up that turned out to be a weed (an actual weed, not pot) seed that was in the soil.  Haha...ya never know.

if you find 1 or 2 seeds in a zip you could prolly say they are s1 but to find a bunch of seeds most likely means bad genetics only one way to find out, I have a green crack bag seed going now, ive gottn the same green crack a few different times only found 1 seed so hopefully its a goodie GL

I'm thinking the grower just let them mature to long and they got a bit seedy, because that's what this strain is known for, s1 self seeding. San Fernando Valley OG kush sativa dominate

It wasn't a ton of them I found maybe 12-14 in an ounce and only maybe 7 at most were really nice tiger striped dark seeds. The rest were like undeveloped seeds. I planted those anyway, could the undeveloped looking seeds produce retarded plants?

The bud was amazing though and an incredible unique high, really up in the top 5 of bud that I've vaped and I always buy high grade.

the other seeds are just premature or not as mature, the sfv og is very good but if you got seeds in it you may have a bunk pheno but if you like it and dont mind the seeds give it a go ive been using fem beans for awhile now and if i see something that throws nanners i usually kill it off no need to hold on to a seedy strain when theres so many dank phenos out there is how i see it.

True I should probably just get clones. If they are truly herm will I be able to identify bananas early or are they tricky?

Under developed seeds will most likely not germinate.  Are you just popping the seeds in the soil?  Or are you germinating in a paper towel or rockwool before planting?

Hermaphrodites can be tricky.  I personally don't mind them because I'm not worried about seeds.  I only grow for personal use, and don't sell, so I don't care about seeds if a hermie plant happens to pollinate itself. That being said, a hermie plant can appear female for most of the flowering cycle and start popping balls quite late in it's life.  I've seen a plant pop balls only a few weeks before harvest time.  I would assume this particular plant was stressed to herm as opposed to any kind of genetic defects.  I have noticed though that seeds from a hermaphrodite are like 95% likely to be female and/or hermie.  I don't think I've ever seen a male plant grow from a hermie seed.

Thanks ya I'm sowing them in something like 30% peat 20% miracle grow seed starter 50% perlite. I just planted them in my same cactus seedling mixture, I didn't really think I would be growing them so I did it on a wim.

I might just keep them then, I'm only looking for personal consumptions and I plan on mainly eating it if yields are decent. I still may pick up a couple clones. Maybe they will cross pollinate

If you like edibles, I suggest you save all of your trim and sugar leaves. They make for great edibles, or you can try your hand at BHO.

I'll tell ya, cannabis is one of the easiest plants to grow and it is very rewarding.  You really don't have to do anything but give them lots of light and water.  Sure a lot of people will tell you you need very specific nutrients and yada yada yada.  But if you just give them water and a lot of light and time....you should have no problem pulling 2-3 ounces dry weight per plant.

If you want, you can add a spoon full of black strap molasses to the water every couple of weeks during the flowering cycle.  It's an excellent and cheap source of carbohydrates for the plants, and some people believe it helps to bring out the terpenes in the buds to make for smellier and better tasting buds, but I don't know if that's true or not.  It is also said to add a good 1/3 weight to the buds, but again, I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate or not, but it's worth doing even if not.

Also, remember that mircalegro seed starter has food already, so you shouldn't fertilize your plants for like a month or so.  I don't remember exactly how long, but it should say on the bag somewhere. You don't want to over feed them by adding ferts too soon.

Thanks, that makes me feel better hehe. Its a headache sifting through all the info on different fertilizers and teas. I'm trying to keep it simple and on the cheaper side. I'm in a great location for outdoor sun but I still may need to get a dechlorinator. I was told you can just let the water sit for a few days and the chlorine will dissipate but if I have 6 plants in ten gallon pots taking 5 gallons a week that's a lot of water I will need to store.

Do you monitor your soil PH often?

Its a learning process and I want to keep it fun not turn it into an OCD inducer; I'm trying to heal over here so stress is no bueno.

I use grandma's unsulfured molasses on my veggies and I always get great crops. Would you say the blackstrap is superior? I know its a bit more expensive in the stores that I've seen it in, but doesn't look to expensive online.

I will see how far this fertilizer gets me and go from there. I'll just follow that guys routine in the link above seems simple enough.

I've been reading a lot of good things about these smart pots/root pouches so I may give those a whirl. Maybe place them inside other pots to make LST easier.

Thanks for all the info everyone! :bananadance:

I never check my pH.  I use regular tap water to water my plants. Maybe I'm lucky?  But I've never had a problem.

Nah....Grandma's is what I use as well. Just as long as it's un-sulfered.

Everyone will probably argue with me, but I use plain ol' miracle grow all purpose fert during veg and virgo bloom booster during flower.  Other than the molasses, I don't do a damn thing to my soil.  I'm like you man, keep it as simple as possible.  Like I said...cannabis is easy as hell to grow. I guess that's why they call it weed.  Now if you're looking to get giant killer buds that are on par with some dispensary, then you might need to do a bit more.  But for me, a couple of plants lasts me a good year or more for my own personal supply, and that's smoking friends out ALL the time as well.  So what ever.:lol:
