Any Sports Forum Cubs fans in the house?

Since there is the annual lull between football and baseball, I hate this time of year :mad:

I'm still eagerly awaiting a World Series appearance. Sadly, I don't think they're quite built up enough to contend in the next year or 2.

The Cubs are the one non-Wisconsin team I like.
My gramps used to sit me in front of the TV to babysit me while he napped. At the time, only the Cubs and Braves were on nearly every day. Mainly due to WGN and TBS carrying all the games....and the Cubs didn't have lights at Wrigley yet, so they had a lot of day games.

I was raised with Harry Caray and Steve Stone teaching me about baseball, so I just stuck with rooting for the Cubs...otherwise in WI all the way.....if the Cubs can't do it, then I root for Milwaukee.


So, any Cubs discussion to be had?

Cubs fan here.

Pretty much the same story as you.  Cubs are the only Chicago team I pay attention to.  Can't beat a 1:20pm day game at Wrigley.


Gonna be interesting what they do with the stadium expansion.

I have two buddies who own one of the nearby buildings, they've been trying to build some rooftop bleachers for twenty years now.  Politics are fucking ridiculous in that area-  they're expecting to cash in big time on this $300 million expansion deal though.

I haven't really followed the expansion plans, but I hope they don't do too much to it.

People don't understand that they can't touch Wrigley without a ton of red tape.
Its a Chicago landmark so they gotta go thru the city to add anything.

And then you hear tards on the radio saying they should demo it and rebuild :facepalm:
Even if they could, its not like they could do much more besides eliminate the vertical gurders to enhance the sightlines.

Even if the Cubs move to the countryside, Wrigley will have to stay put.

I've made it to the last 3 opening days at Wrigley, but I think I'm gonna sit this one out.
Last year was miserable. Cold, windy, and rainy

I wait until June now.

I've done a few 40 degree and rainy early season games.  Not worth it.

Freeze my ass off for two hours while they wait to call the game so they can sell more beer.


Early June,  when they're starting to suck so the tickets are cheaper,  65-70 and sunny.  fucking beautiful.

Yeah, I used to spend all Saturday the day tix go on sale in their "virtual waiting room" waiting to buy my tix for the year. Would usually buy 4 games.

Now, they're not selling our quite like they used to so when I go this year I'll probably just snag a set off Ebay and wait til May/June.

I was thinking of someday just jumping on the train to Chicago and buying a ticket off the street someday.
Never been to a game by myself though. Its just a little thought I had for a boring summer day.

shlong def head out for a game during the summer even alone its fun and theres ticket scalpers all over the damn place not to mention stubhub and CL if you really wanna see a game thats sold out. but like beefy said dont come when its still cold and shitty out or youll be sitting on your dick for 2 hours then get told to go home. You know after you spent 20$ on 2 beers.

oh not meaning to thread jack but shlong did you ever finish john dies at the end or was it just too fucked up ?

I love going to Wrigley/Chicago.

I think I've been to Wrigley about 45-50 times and County Stadium/Miller park (Milwaukee) about 30 times.
Never been to a rained out game yet :smile:

Oh, and Comiskey/US Cell once :stonedjerk: what a fucking joke the Sox are (imo)

I like a lot of teams in baseball and one of them is the Cubbies. Usually because they are just good enough to win some games but never good enough to actually pose a risk to playoff contending teams.

And same as you, living in Ohio we watched all the Cubs day games on WGN growing up.

In baseball I usually go Reds and Indians are my top 2 teams. Then I have a couple teams ill root for like the Cubs, Marlins, and Pirates

That's all I ever do.

Unless it's the crosstown classic or another big game,  there will be tickets.


Last year, once the Cubs were out of it,  you could get 4 seats together below face value ten minutes before the game started.

I miss baseball so much this year!  I'm an OKC Thunder fan and while they are doing good the NBA just isn't getting the job done for me.  The playoffs look about set in the east and in the west we are just waiting to see if the Lakers pull through.  My life just needs the peacefulness of an MLB game more so than flopping NBA players right now.

Baseball really does have a calming effect on me.

What's really nice is taking a little radio fishing and listening to a 1:20 game while chilling the hell out.

If you haven't watched the Ken Burns mini series "Baseball" you are missing out.  It's on Netflix or available at ridiculous prices in places like Best Buy. :thumbup:

I've seen all 9 (10) innings on PBS and MLBN.
Fucking love that shit.
I especially love 20-40s baseball. So ripe with talent its unreal.
