Strange 'booms' reported in a few states
    #17747226 -

Quote:
They showed up this week in Oklahoma, were then recorded in Massachusetts, and one reader even reported them in Indiana, but it seems that the “Mystery Booms” are still going strong with new reports coming out of the West Coast.

The first new set of strange explosions were heard in Weber County, Utah last night around 9:00 PM, prompting hundreds of concerned citizens to phone the local authorities. Interestingly enough, when Fox 13 News rang up the University of Utah to check in with the Seismograph department, they claimed that while there were no earthquakes to speak of, they did pick up some unidentified “sonic activity” around the time the booms were reported.

One resident believed that the noises were related to aircraft:

Sonic booms. They’re not supposed to break the sound barrier of the continental U.S., but they did so. I know they’re doing some night training over the West Desert because I saw a string of tracers being fired high in the sky tonight, about 10 or 11 o’clock. Way out west of Skull Valley.

The local Hill Airforce base, on the other hand, claims that they had no aircraft in the air after 6:00PM. Likewise, the National Guard stated that had no weapons training that day, while the ATF told reporters that there were not rocket tests that day either. Hrmm..

Eric Anderson believes the noises were coming from none other than Area 51, but that we shouldn’t start blaming the extraterrestrials:

The Area 51 guys could also be playing around with their latest hypersonic gadgets. (NOT “aliens”. Area 51 is an actual air base where they test things they won’t officially talk about for another 10 years or so.)

The next reports of strange booms in the sky came from North Hollywood, California at 9:30PM. The LA Times blog reported that folks first thought the noise had emanated from a North Hollywood metro station, but as of now the source of the explosion is still unknown to authorities.

My uncle was talking about this with me the other day. We couldn't come up with any logical explanation on what the booms could be.

What do you guys think?

my vote is sound barrier.
I think it's probably just testing new secret aircraft, or maybe the president/ other officials needed to be somewhere in a hurry

Lies!

It's probably only the earth moaning again. That gets reported a lot, all over the place.

Could just be heartburn.

Oh my fucking god guys, loose lips sink ships.

STFU AMERICA Don't TELL them there's something to be worth spying at going on :P

e; f; b; We have been testing hyper-sonic weapons delivery systems for the last half decade. They could be trying to shoot them down to see if it's even possible with conventional weapons. I don't know if those operate in the lower atmosphere, though.

The thing I am tin foil hat about is nuclear powered airplanes, we proved the concept but never fielded it because it was considered too high a liability for obvious reason of having flying nuclear reactors, but a nuclear airplane could potentially stay in the air for a long time compared to any conventional one. Combine that with our research into directed energy defense systems...

Really? Have you seen our black budget?

We have rail guns that work and only have the practical materials research problem that the rails deteriorate from arcing.

During one of the tests, the projectile was able to travel an additional 7km (~4 mi) downrange after penetrating a 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick steel plate.

I've read that it is confirmed that it is our anti air missiles shooting down drones sent from Iran, but we don't want it to get out that they have the technology for drones yet. I'll find a link to the article in a second.

Edit - I'm just being a douche.

If this were true there would be debri raining down all over peoples property, the pieces would quickly be brought to the attention of media, and we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.

Yeah no. Iran might have drones, but certainly not that kind of drone.

We have supersonic weapons. They're probably sonic booms from secret weapons or vehicles.

For interest, because I love airplanes and robots.

The type of drone you'd be talking about isn't the buzzing number you usually think of:

Maximum speed: 497.1 mph (800 km/h; 432 kn)
Cruise speed: 404 mph (351 kn; 650 km/h)
Range: 15,525 mi (13,491 nmi; 24,985 km)
Endurance: 36 hours
Service ceiling: 65,000 ft (19,812 m)

Those are super long range, super sophisticated, basically unmanned U2's

The only pictures we have of our best drones are because one went down over Iran.

What must have happened was a sort of extreme bad luck worst case scenario involving the drone going into a flat spin and then skipping off the ground in two big chunks, then you can see where they've stuck it back together there to do some propaganda and claim they flew it in. That's why you can't see the bottom of it, because it's totally wrecked. It's all speculation though. They certainly could not have just "hacked" it though, cyber warfare really does not work that way, particularly when you've never seen what you're attempting to reverse engineer in the first place. If it was cyber warfare it had to be on our end. Interesting topic.

Seriously, how can you spread such inaccurate information like that?

It is obviously a result of the Battle for Middle Earth as described in J.R. Tolkien's books.
