benign positional vertigo

thats what i have

its hard to type or walk. its even hard to talk, words dont come out right. im typing with one finger.

last night i was taking a shower with my gf and everything went black and i ran to the bedroom and hit the floor. ambulance came and long story short im hone after spending all night in the hospital.

they think i got it from my 2 yr old son who has bronchitis.


spell check is my best friend right now lol.
this sucks really bad.
so dizzy... hope i recover soon.

Go get checked by a ear nose and throat doctor.

I have an inner ear disorder that results in random vertigo attacks.

Are your ears ringing? One or the other or both?

ya it says it has something to do with an infection in my "middle ear"

still dizzy. massive headaches.

weird thing is i can use my left hand way better then my right.
right arm feels completely numb to movement. im right handed... weird huh?

havent eaten more than a few pizza roles since  Wednesday night. dont know why im not hungry at all. drinking plenty though.

why do i feel like a stroke patient. like i have to relearn how to talk, walk, write, ect. has anyone ever had this happen before?

i need advice or guidance or something i feel like im dying.

You should go to the hospital. Those symptoms are not from vertigo. If you have a middle ear infection, than wouldn't happen. You may have a bleed in your brain that caused the vertigo, and now these other symptoms.Go go go.

all these are symptoms of that medicine

but thank you for your concern koods.  they did a cat scan at the hospital. all was good with my brain.  i wonder if i can stop taking this med?

Did you have numbness on your right yesterday? I don't think unilateral weakness is a side effect of any drug.  Is the ear affected on the left side? Did they culture the ear to confirm an infection?

yes i was numb yesterday. everything feels better EXCEPT my right arm and speech is still slurred.

the paper they gave me with all the info on this drug says that numbing of one side of the body is an effect. now it doent mention weather that is a effect of vertigo or the meds. but it is stated so that calmed my nerves.

edit: idk if they tested my ear  that night is a blur. but they said thats what it was....

When I was first diagnosed the doctor thought it was due to an infection. It lasted about 3 weeks and finally went away. And then it came back. It's been off and on ever since. I can go a year without it but it seems it always flares up at some point. Amusement park rides are a real risk for me - can trigger it.

I think maybe it started as an infection but somehow messed with my inner ear enough that certain things can cause the little bits of calcium in my ear to break free - like they don't stay in put like they used to once this all started.

I hope it's not the case for you cause it sucks. Most of the time it's just a feeling of motion sickness but at it's worst I can walk into walls, fall down and have bed spins.

You can see an ENT and he can do the Epley maneuver on you. I've had it done - it helps but I was told to not look down or lay down for 48 hours afterwards.

I have never been prescribed meds for it. I have taken dramamine to counteract the motion sickness.

I feel for you...it's a horrible thing to have to go through.

feeling much better. stopped taking the meds yesterday and it helped.
still cant use my right arm much but more then yesterday. speech is better.

so hopefully this is all gone by sunday. thanks to all who wrote in this thread, especially koods. youve all helped me understand this better and fight it better.

if they are anti-biotics you need to take them all even if you feel better.

its been 1 week 3 days since this happened...
and i was wrong.
so was the hospital i was at and the doctor that was there.

i was sent home with benign positional vertigo,
but in fact i DID have a small stroke in my right cerebellum.
im admited to the hospital now and i am on the way to recovery.
i should have listened to koods more seriously,
even tho by that point the damage had been done,
i would have done this a week ago.

a lifetime of blood thinners and a few weeks therapy for me!
yay...
hopefully i can get back to playing guitar sometime soon...
but hey, even with a gimp right arm, i still roll a killer doobie

Wow, that is scary. Do you know why it happened? I don't know how old you are, but I am assuming you are not in the age range that normally sees strokes for without a reason? Maybe you have a leaky valve in your heart? That is usually the most common reason younger people can have a stroke. It was an ischemic stroke, and not a hemorrhage I'm guessing since yo are on thinners and that would be a terrible idea for someone who was bleeding. Good luck.

It also sounds like the hospital you went to when this first happened REALLY dropped the ball. I can believe they didnt suspect a stroke when you came in. If they had, they could have possibly prevented permanent damage. Sue the motherfuckers!

i almost cant blame them because the cat scan usually wont
pick up such a small stroke, but the doctor did make some
dumb decisions that he could be held responsible for so
this has already crossed my mind.

to be honest they rushed me out and forced me to walk
around so they could say i was good to go home after i
told them i couldnt even stand let alone walk several times.
they grabbed me out of bed and held me as i walked.
