pipe dreams for a perfect martha

ok, so i've got two marthas running right now. and both were made with minimum experience/knowhow. i feel like i did a pretty damn good job with the help of our forum here, but have since been brainstorming on how to make it better - my question here is this:

what would you want in YOUR martha?



i'm sure each and every one of us has had the thought "if only i had built it [this] way." so the two i have running function just fine. but i would love for them to function better. so any pipe dreams you have are welcome - this is the thread to dream big.

when i build my next one, price will not be an issue. im getting ready to drop plenty of cash on a new one, with a whole lab setup - it needs to be beautiful. . .

currently im running a single humidifier with 3/4" steel mesh/polycarbonate hosing, split into two inputs for two marthas. so it's split four ways, and does great. i also have a clip on desk fan which pushes air through strategically cut holes in the martha for FAE. And, i have a 24 watt blue tone CFL lamp on each to provide ambient light. all are connected to timers which are dialed in for optimum performance. but i'm getting ready to build a new one - a 'premium martha'.

give me your ideas - and at least one of us will have the bossest martha EVER!

been tinkering with using an Arduino for monitoring and control

20 gal reservoir w/ a float check that will auto-refill

temp & humidity sensor that uploads data to a remote server with potential to see performance over time at various points within

also slowly building the thing out to function with an 8'x3'x8' space using shelving and metal grates for shelves

things gonna be pumping out fungus

so i get paid in about a week so im finally drawing my buildout. i've decided to move away from the traditional martha.

i've been using the standard martha stewart home closet style with plastic tent. i've decided now to go with a fiberglass terrarium. i can fill a slightly larger area as well as have a more rigid design for attachments etc. the downfall is that it will be much more difficult to modify after the fact. so here's what im gonna do:

6 1/2' x 5' x 3' fiberglass box

should be tall enough to fit 5 or 6 shelves. 
  -shelves can be made out of
    A: aluminum cage material (similar to most marthas or kitchen shelving units)
    B: Fiberglass

    im leaning more towards fiberglass as it would allow separate grow chambers per shelf as well as add to the structural integrity.

on each shelf i will add a computer fan on one side and filtered hole on the other
  -they will be wired into a PC power source which can be
      A: on one unified timer so that each shelf is uniform. 
      B: part of a working computer which can control each fan independently

  leaning towards option B.. it would be much more difficult and require the help of one of my techie friends, but i think is best option... option A be can be easily adapted to become option B; which would allow several FAE/rH tests to run at any given time as well as to allow more or less FAE per stage of growth on that shelf


furthermore, each shelf will have it's own humidity control.
    -again, not sure if i want them each to be uniform or separate control
      A: uniform humidity would be easier option - equally divided hosing system can
deliver just fine
      B: if i want each to have it's own control i will have to utilize two to three humidifiers set to different levels

  leaning again towards separate control per shelf. will be a pain in the ass but well worth it.

next is to figure out a condensation run-off system. i have carpet in my apartment and have had endless trouble trying to keep the floor from getting soaked.

the new martha will be closed on the bottom. the problem i'm running into is this:
  how to get an angle on the floor of the martha without ruining the structural integrity.

at first i thought it would be as simple as putting a hole in the bottom, putting the whole thing on 3"-5" feet with a tray underneath. but i think that will lead to small amounts of standing water on the floor of my martha. i'm thinking i may angle-grind in a large circle around the drainage hole to allow an ever so slight downward slant towards the hole. the catch tray can be emptied daily.

next step is to figure out a door system. im thinking if i have a separate door on each shelf it will be far too cluttered. instead im thinking i'll divide the front of the FC into 2 doors one atop the other, each will open forward towards me like an oven. if i can work out a "door stop" it could also function as a small shelf which can function as a small work area while im moving my casings around.

another consideration is the lights. so far i've been using a very simple light system. just a few 24 watt 5500K CFL bulbs. just one per martha. the NEW martha will have a wide spectrum grow light on each shelf. i'd like to have good fixtures, not only so i can deal with all the rH but also so i can test out different bands of light vs displaying phenotypes.

that about wraps it up. i can't think of anything else at the moment. i will upload detailed schematics and when i commence with the operation i will upload photos as well as results.

so, ive been researching the price of plexiglass and the cost of getting it cut ...

this is going to be one damn expensive martha

... but SO worth it.
