Crossing the border?

AFOAF of mine is going over to Canada then back down, he just inoculated a jar (just one) a few days ago, he said he it has no mycelium yet. He doesn't have anywhere to put it while he's gone, or anyone to take care of it. He's going to be gone for a week, he just moved and has no utilities. Is he safe crossing with it?

I would put it in the fridge it should still be good when he gets back.But to have P.Cubensis mycelium is not illagal in canada but I wouldn't risk bringing it over if I was your friend.

Like I said he doesn't have any utilities, no electricity, etc, he just moved. He has no idea what to expect, he's never been to Canada, I can't aid him on that one either. He really needs some suggestions!

If it's only one jar, you might want to just scrap it (unless it's a big jar). You could probably get away with it if no growth has started. Say it's soil for your garden, or something like that. But once the mycelium kicks in, it's gonna look weird to the border patrol.

well don't you have a fridge you can put it in for him or dose he have a friend that would keep it in there fridge till he gets back.I wouldn't risk taken one jar over the border like I said it's not worth it.If he has more spores then who care dump the cake and start over when he gets back

You could pack it in a cooler with other food items that need to be refrigerated.  They probably wouldn't ask what the jar was, and if they did you could just say it's food of some kind :smile:

*sigh* he doesn't want to kill them.  Two batches, his only two have died.  One to the green meanies and the other to what seemed to be growth stopping.  Temperature and humidity has been monitored quite well :frown:

temp/humidity arent really a problem while the cakes are still in-vitro though...so why not just leave it at his house while he is away? a little drop or raise in temp while hw is gone will not be detramental to his cake, plus it will be a cool suprise to see how is has done after a week of being gone.

I think GregHimself is right. Unless you live in some god awful hot place, your jar should be fine until you go home, unless you're planning on staying away for like two or three months.

Just put it in a dark place and say wow when you come home to a but load of wonderful new growth.  :eyemouth: :grin:
