:shrug: I dont know. Maybe falling asleep did not help you stick with the stories and all the details.

I guess I am defending it so much because I read the books as a teenager and fell in love. Sure the movies are not as exact as I would like, but what movies are exactly like the book. And btw, the gollum scene was so long because it was that way in the book. Same with the trolls, that was a long section so they dragged it out for a reason.

You guys have your opinions and I have mine. If someone asked me if they should go see it then I would tell them that they will only truly enjoy it if that posses patience.

Personally I found the LOTR movies signficantly harder to pay attention to. I didn't really like how they handled the mass battle scenes, too much going on and the action was too fast for the frame rate. Sort of like watching rats swarm around under a strobe light, it's just a mess of frenetic action.

I'm more familiar with the story of the hobbit though, my dad read it to us when we were kids and we didn't get as far through the LOTR books.
