I knew i would enjoy the film as I'm a huge fan of the LOTR's trilogy, but it was actually better than my expectations. I was imagining the pipeweed or whatever to be like cannabis and the shroom joke had me laughing out loud. A really great movie and now I'm glad they are making two more.

I don't like when people produce crap for money but they can make a six part series out of The Hobbit and I'd go and pay to watch them all.

I think Tolkien wrote the book for his children. I thought for being a children's story it was great. Not to put down harry potter but to me that was a childish story.

The Hobbit is an interesting precursor to The Lord Of The Rings, but the relationship of the creatures was not really sorted out in The Hobbit to the extent it was in The Lord Of The Rings (goblins being the case in point as were encountered in the Misty Mountains being almost characters of derision and "oafs".  The treatment of the ring as being an oddity that would have been clearly understood to be a Ring of Power by the dwarfs and the elves.  Bilbo's later translations of Elvish works would have surely informed him of the power of the ring he held in his hands.  Some interesting oddities...
