Nah, I met him online on Deviantart, were both photographers.

new zealand is great, theres tonnes of stuff to do and the scenery is awesome.

if your going to aus i would say your best bet is to stick to the east coast, sydney, melbourne and brisbane. those places have the best of waht australia has to offer. south australia, west australia and the northern territory are really not all that good at all.

i'd say as a definite you'd want to go to sydney to check out the sydney harbour bridge, the opera house etc. catch a ferry across from circular quay (the city centre) over to manly beach. on the ferry ride you go past all the bridge adn the opera house and all that. then wander on around manly beahc, it has tonnes of shops, restaurants, pubs, clubs, and one of sydneys best beaches.

another place i'd say is a must go is out to the great barrier reef in queensland. its one of the 7 wonders of the world and speaks for itself. highly recommend that. you probably also want to go to surfers paradise in brisbane, and check out the valley and all that.

theres big hippy towns in places like Nimbin and Byron Bay. Byron bay especially. that might be a cool place for you to check out as well.

if you are travelling around you may also want to go to visit "ayers rock" also known as "uluru" which is a giant spiritual rock in Alice Springs. this is in darwin, and is probably only good for an adventure type thing. i woudln't stay in darwin for any extended period of time or anything cos its not that nice. theres also another prominent rock formation near by called the Olgas. i went on a helicopter ride over the ayers rock and the olgas once when i was younger, it was awesome. climbed to the top of ayers rock too.

other then that, in terms of weather, brisbane/queensland is generalyl very warm and humid. melbourne is known for having eratic weather patterns with 4 seasons in one day, and its generally colder. sydney is the middle ground and is about the same.

i'd say brisbane has the best 'daylife', melbourne has the best 'nightlife' and sydney has a mix of the two.

you'll love it in aus tho, its awesome. the people are great

Can't wait to go to New Zealand, have a lot planned for that haha.

Planning on moving to Brisbane, might stay with his parents for a little while in Gladstone to make some money until we find a place in Brissy.

My boyfriend lived in Bunbury, WA before he moved to Vancouver to live with me, Sounded pretty boring but he went to Ayers rock last year, he said it was amazing and took some pretty amazing pictures of it. He said he wants to take me there when we go..Hopefully next year! I want to see gold coast too, he loves it there. Always goes to the indy.

I'm importing my cat to aussie too and the quarantine is in Sydney, so I'll get to see Sydney too.

yeah you know lord of the rings was filmed in NZ?? theres tonnes of stuff like jet boating, bunjy jumping, all kinds of extreme sports type stuff in NZ. also just bikeriding throught he mountains or driving out through all the scenery and stuff would be epic.

watch the weather in brisbane dude! its warm and humid as shit! plenty of sunscreen and all that. its really easy to get sunburned in brisbane. its a tropical climate. if your in brisbane you should probably go check out the theme parks with waterworld and movieworld and all that too.

Ayer's rock really is amazing. you climb up one section of the cliff face, and at some parts it gets so stepp that theres a chain you have to hold onto to kind of pull yourself up the cliff a bit. then it gets to a flat clearing with a 2metre upclimb, and then the final descent is a chilled walk to the summit of the rock, where theres this big stone plaque tablet thing that shows in which direction all prominent things are. and you stand and look around and can see a 360 degree panoramic view in every direction out towards where the horizon and sky blend. it would be great for one of those 360 panoramic timelapse shots or something. the only thing is the weather is insanely warm in darwin, cos its pretty much in the centre of the desert. i'm talking like 45 degree heat, uncomfortably warm. but its ayers rock and its epic. don't forget to go to the Olgas as well. you get to walk through all these epic rock formations and stuff in the Olgas.

and yeah i'd mostly just wander around the city in sydney, as i said, opera house, harbour bridge etc. you can do a tour walking up the top of the harbour bridge which is realy awesome too. the best thing about sydney i think is as i said before, just a 10-15 minute boat ride from the centre of the city drops you at one of sydneys best beaches. its awesome! the ferry ride in itself is a cool experience.

while your in sydney you could head on over to byron bay and stay there for a while, and on up to wards the sunshine coast. a place i highly recommend that i visit regularly is called Noosa. nice little beach side town, your bf would probably know it. the water is so clear that you can see the fish swimming around in plane sight, and the sand is like talcum powder. its a great place. in the whole of Noosa there isn't a single traffic light. it's all just filled with roundabout intersections and stuff.

theres tonnes of stuff to see and do in aus. aus has a big sporting culture. kind of similar to canada with the hockey and all that, but we all watch the cricket/rugby/football. yearly spring horse racing carnivals where all the ladies get all glamoured up hahah. theres also a big drinking culture in aus as well. and the drug prices are ridiculous out here so i probably wouldn't bother using drugs in aus, except for weed or something.

it really is great though. canadians especially have a good time in aus i think. aussies and canadians just seem to get along well. tonnes of canadians travel to aus and australians to canadia.

oh and the zoo as well in brisbane is fairly awesome too

My dad got a tour working ops with usaf/nsf at McMurdo out of Christchurch a while back, I was young and don't rember what I wish I could but I always advise whoever's interested to visit the south-south island of nz at the nearest opportunity.  Visited au as well but only for a couple weeks.  Fiji was awesome too.  Really can't go wrong in that part of the world.

GF and I are off to NZ in March(ish) and Australia in May(ish) ...

We'll be cycling South Island NZ (but would like to do some treks on the North Island.)

Then probably doing the Tasmania circuit and then over to Perth to start work and gradually moving south over the year, before heading into SE. Asia on an unknown time line.
