Why am i obsessed with Built to spill? Why aren't they huger?

i've been listening to these dudes for almost a year straight, they've been more or less #1 in my lineup (the doors are only good for 6 months) and they're STILL growing on me

They make me feel like I'm tripping, they most CERTAINLY did, i wish i was doing acid in the early nineties when it was legit and cheap.



its so simple poppy, but the songs have such an awesome flow. and the dude's songwriting is unreal. they straight up move my soul.

AND they put on a KILLER live show (i haven't seen them yet but i got a ton of recordings)

do yourself a favor and dig the thoughts and feelings doug martsch has to convey.

I like them a lot.  Particularly their last two albums.  Been listening to them for a few years. 

Don't know why they aren't more popular.  Maybe they don't appeal to a large section of people?

I'm from where they are from. Go to a live show if you can. They put on a really good one. I saw Perfect From Now On live. They played the whole album front to back and some stuff from You in Reverse. Check out Treepeople too.

they are pretty popular, i mean they are indie legends...if i was in a band as well known as Built to Spill I would feel very successful.

I definitely do, Modest Mouse has some sick songs but Built to Spill has a style that is at once undefinable and at the same time all their own.

Built to spill is an amazing band!
I have been listening to them for years and I still love them as much as when i first heard them.

Good band!  My favorite album is Keep It Like A Secret.
But naw, Modest Mouse is still better.

Well, what I mean is their older stuff is better than Built to Spill's older stuff IMO.
Built to Spill's last album was much better than Modest Mouse's.  But I prefer Lonesome Crowded West or Building Nothing Out of Something to anything Built to Spill has released.

i guess that's fair. but i kinda like Modest Mouse modestly, while i like Built To Spill as if i can feel like it's classic, in some way.... while Modest Mouse is almost "underground"; that is until later on in their career.

whatever. it's all good. they are both awesome.
