Two good looking specimen from NC, Identification Help Please?
    #17045061 -

Habitat:  Mountains of Western North Carolina. The lighter, whiter ones were found in mulch/straw.  The darker ones were found in grass.

Although it is October, the weather has been warm during the day and colder at night 40 to 50 degrees. Both specimen smell very earthy and mushroomy.  The darker ones smell great!!!

They were both pretty fresh, the white ones very moist still and had a darker circle on the inner cap.  I picked both to do a spore print but the lighter ones with two shades (1) are still too wet and seem to have expanded a little as they have dried.

The dark ones (2) have produced a bit of spores, hard to tell yet what color but it's dark, kind of black and it looks like a hint of bluish in them or possibly purple!

I am hoping that the darker ones are some sort of psylocybe mushrooms but still unsure.  The gills are widely spaced and dark brown.  They went into the cap.  Take a look and tell me what you think they are.  Will let you know more about the prints!!!

No 1 looks like Gymnopus, but erythropus or dryophilus? They are almost identical to me...

Aren't those psychoactive?  Did you mean Gymnopilus?

well that's quite alright!  i'm having fun finding new species and researching about them.  I can't wait to get my audubon field guide.  Know of any other great books for research?

The second shroom I collected today smells SOOO good, and i'm not a big fan of eating mushrooms.  Any info about its edibility?
