Be realistic though, outside of the entertainment,arts/education areas, 75% of the neighborhoods are essentially a fucking zombie apocalypse video game

It is the second most 'empty city' (the rental vacancy rates and housing vacancy rates)

Honestly, what scares me most about detroit is the black flight to the suburbs. Slowly they are moving west and taking up those criminal/drug addicted values as housing prices continue to fall. Westland and Redford, once predominantly working class communities have been invaded already. Ask your parents about these communities when they were kids, nothing like they are now.

What happens when the city is totally ravished of the few productive citizens it has left?

I've been there a few times in my life. My grandma and some of my uncles stay up there.

I was just up there earlier this year. It's an interesting place. My grandma stays in the rough area so it can be scary but it seems everyone keeps to themselves for the most part.

It's weird how every store has the glass up though. I wasn't used to that but I did find this great restaurant. Best food I've had in ages. Downtown is alright and Motown was great to see.

Just like every place it has it's good and bad. It's a little rough around the edges but I can tell there are some good people up there.

Its not that bad bro. Again like most major cities there are going to be areas that you just
do not want to engage with whatsoever. Detroit is fucking huge and with the low population
there are bound to be depleted areas and it certainly is on the come up. There are new business
popping up every day and people are starting to move back. We are seeing young people take
advantage of the low property rates and are taking up space in these so called "lower end"
areas.

idk man, i see it everyday. yeah, young people can open business; however, there needs to be people down there to thrive.  People in the burbs fear Detroit (for good reason a lot of the time) and will not move there.  There are good projects going on, mostly related to art and food industry, but the city really needs big manufacturing back.  Niche small businesses will not bring back the city to what is once was. I love the optimism of for the city that you have as I once embraced the ideals; however, looking at the big picture Detroit will continue to slowly rot.

This is spot on. My dad grew up in Southfield. Went to one of the two high schools (can't remember off hand). Let's see, his parents moved from Russia/Poland to Israel and then to Detroit when he was 9. That was 1962. So he was in high school in the late 60s. Southfield was a beautiful sprawling suburb. Back then it was considered upper middle class.

In my opinion Downtown Detroit is halfway decent. Which is a very small part of Detroit. The rest of the city is irreparable.

I Used to live like 25 min from Gary, which has parts worse then the worst parts of the D, but Detroit is actually pretty cool.

Why does it matter? What is your experience in Detroit? Where are you from?

I've had plenty of years of first hand experience in Detroit. Any way you want to spin it it is a ghetto in freefall decline.
