grifola maturity

I found about ten wild grifola frondosa yesterday. The problem is that all were a few miles out in the woods and were only the size of a cup.

I am too lazy to go back and check on them every day. How long should I wait before I go back to check on them. Does three days sound about right?

I've found it 4 times this month, eaten up and beaten up. I think its one of those mushrooms you have to get after a night of explosive growth. Hopefully the deer in your neck of the woods are better fed then mine!

The hunters in my area have been doing a pretty good job of feeding the deer lead. The last few years I have done pretty well getting grifola.

I can't say the same for honey mushrooms and chicken of the woods. Half the time that I find them they are all beaten up already.

They do it in season and they eat them so I assume that they have a reason.
