puffballs, earthstars, stinkhorns and other fungi
    #16828150 -

Here's a few photos from the first part of September:

1. Scleroderma citrinum

2. Lycoperdon curtisii

3. Mycena leaiana

4. Phallus ravenelii

5. Gymnopus dryophilus (?)

6. Lentinellus ursinus

(I ate this back in June - no stomach upset after eating this inedible, but it was like mushroom jerky.)

7. Phellinus robiniae

8. Mycena sp.

Amazing detail in those pictures. I'm really digging the colors on the phellinus:thumbup:
I've been finding Lycoperdon curtisii and haven't had time to get them to species. Thanks for unintentionally giving me a hand.

Man those are some beautiful photos. The Mycena leaiana and your other orange cluster with the marginate gives are just lovely.

Thanks, bloodworm. Will try to narrow it to species later.

Thanks all for the comments/compliments. Trying to figure out this flash photography thing and macro lens has been fun. I've been experimenting with an LED flashlight, diffusing the flash with a handkerchief, and other trickery to get the best results. Getting there! Getting a few decent pics takes the edge off not finding any mushrooms worth taking home. Really, just getting out in the woods is reward enough.

I thank you a third time!

Excellent pics, jackalope!  You are getting me excited for the upcoming PNW fall season. I got a Canon T3i a couple months ago and have barely been able to take any mushroom pics.

I have not experimented with flashes yet but I like your results.

What type of cam are you using?

Really nice pics jackalope! Your Hygrocybe appear to be Mycena leaiana as well. We're they terrestrial? That would be pretty nifty.

ah... makes sense. The color is identical and they were in the same habitat. Not terrestrial. On decomposing logs. Thanks for the help.

@thetonebone72: I am using a Canon Rebel EOS T3 with a 60mm macro lens and the speedlite 430ex II flash. I am new to flash (and SLR) photography but the flash has been the most important addition I've made to my gear. For me, the flash, f8 and 1/200, ISO 100 = happiness. I've ditched the tripod.

Pick that tripod back up sir! Your shots are very good, but with that rig they could be Legendary!!!

What's the max working distance on the 60mm macro? I'm mathtarded.

Nvm. I'm not googletarded! It's 9cm for 1:1.
