Save The Shroomery IRC! * 2

The Shroomery IRC has been recently taken down by server attacks over and over, and now the admins have given up and shut it down for good. I'm looking for some support to help revise it and bring it back. This same thing happened over at DMT Nexus a few years back and they didn't give up, they rallied their members and asked for donations to get better servers and better protection, and they got it done. I think we should at least attempt to do the same for our members here.

Countless times people(noobs) have came into The Shroomery IRC because they needed quick answers on whether or not the mushrooms they picked were edible, otherwise they would have just ate them. People coming in having bad trips, thinking they are losing it looking for support. Excellent cultivation team that helped tons of people learn and prevent mistakes.

I don't know if donations for better servers are what we need, or a new admin, but I think if the members of The Shroomery really want to keep it around we can pull something together.

(Myself and a few others are willing to donate already)

A Kickstarter Donation Page would be an easy set up, and donors could receive idk, prints, or I can do Shroomery papercraft(http://imgur.com/zkitR) also sculpts and busts of some sort of Shroomery design, maybe other members have things they could contribute for the donors.

Ythan has already said no. Drop it. It brought unnecessary attention to our site. If you want to make an IRC and invite people you know, fine, but the admins have made their decision.

i didn't want to say anything because i'm trying to stay out of drama and not attract parasites, but after like the billionth message, i have decided to give my 24 cents. i'm completely with y-than. i'm glad the irc is gone. i'm honestly surprised so many people care this much about the bloody irc. there is no excuse for that kind of obsessive attachment. there was no proper hierarchy. there was constant bickering and abuse of power even between the administration. y-than shouldn't have to deal with that. the best admins were the ones that were most silent.

i was in the 'new room' x created and people were still complaining about how to make it like the old one non stop. someone offered to dedicate 400-500 bucks to the irc! except x didn't even pay his power bill and so the wireless he was stealing kept getting shut off. i figured he should concern himself with getting power before an irc room. also there was a lot of hypocrisy, hostility and hate going on with little to no talk about cultivation or any-thing intelligent. by the end of it, it almost looked like the old one!

ps, this isn't against x, i like him. but it was the general atmosphere. i used to like the few people that went, but it's like it always just turns into an ugly ugly monster. there are so many irc rooms on the net. when people speak of how this one was so special cause of the people, i'm thinking to my-self can't u communicate with them still through fucking e-mail or something else? the only other defense was it offered helpful information to newbiews...which can all easily be found in abundance on the forums.

there, i did it. i got it out. now let us never speak about the irc again.

I just don't understand how DMT Nexus can handle their IRC problems with the help of their members(some that don't even use the IRC) by coming together to keep it going. It just seems like we are giving up. Sorry I brought it up.

i made a post in the feedback forum suggesting they set up a temporary channel on one of the free servers and leave a note/link on the chat page.

people would have to connect with their own client though.

someone should set up a channel on a free server then make a post and ask a mod to stickey it and ask an admin to make a note on the chat page.

Its not the same as The Shroomery chat where people come in high as fuck and people come in questioning god and life for the first time. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same you wanna be where everybody knows your name.

Sorry to bump an old thread but what is going on with this?

Lets just setup a channel on a major network and problem solved. We can add a password which will be in a sticky thread to keep just shroomerites in there. :thumbup:

they run the website, which hosted it...i mean, after having loads of fun on chat for about 2 months, and then having it shut down, you can imagine how from my point of view that looks a bit fishy and weird. it's like the administration is turning a blind eye...to itself...

There still is a #shroomery irc on irc.danknug.com (all the old IRC members are there, it might not be 'official', but it's as close as you'll get to the original IRC, just it's hosted on a real IRC network instead of a web server...)
